heath56 Posted October 8, 2022 #1 Share Posted October 8, 2022 Hi Sorry if this is a daft question but our cruise (NCL Gem sailing from Trieste, Italy) says you need to be onboard 2 hrs before departure and disembarkation starts 2hrs after arrival time. If we arrive into a port at 10am and leave at 5pm does that mean we can only be off the ship between 12 and 3? Thank you

Thank you Are you using the deadlines/timing for the entire cruise departure and return to port at the end of the cruise? Those are quite different from the timing at each port. And those will be announced, as they could change, as could the exact time of arrival, etc. There should also be a sign as you exit the ship at each port to remind you what time to be back ON BOARD (not running towards the ship! 😉 ). Rare LHT28 Posted October 8, 2022 #4 Share Posted October 8, 2022 Usually the 2 hrs is on Embarkation day Ports stops you usually need to be ONBOARD 30 mins prior to sailaway So if sailaway is 5pm just be back by 4:25 PM at the latest 4 pm would be better 😉

bbwex Posted October 8, 2022 #6 Share Posted October 8, 2022 When you enter a foreign port, the local authorities will come on board, and clear the ship and passengers. This can be fairly quick, or can take up to an hour. Once that is finished, you can start to disembark for that port. In most ports, they will ask that you be back aboard an hour before sailaway time. If you are on a ship's tour, they might cut that closer, but if you are on a private tour they will likely be back an hour before departure time. If you are on you own, make very sure that you are back on time, and aim for at least an hour before just in case. The ship will wait for ship's tours, private tours guarantee that they will get you back (and I have never heard of a reputable private tour company that was late, but passengers that decide to do things on their own run a chance of making a timing mistake. There are ample YouTube videos of passengers getting back after it is too late!

jsn55 Posted October 9, 2022 #8 Share Posted October 9, 2022 And be careful of any ports where your ship is anchored and tenders are used. Don't wait for the very last one to come back to the ship after your day in port.
