Callao Peru

Does your cruise end there or are you in port?  If it ends and you are going to your hotel, contact the hotel and arrange for a transfer.  If you are in port, the cruise line will probably provide a shuttle to somewhere away from the port--we've always been dropped at the Plaza San Miguel.  From there you can get a cab fairly safely.  You don't want to leave from Callao unless you have arranged a ride since it is very unsafe.

If on a port of call, there is usually a shuttle bus to a  big shiopping mall, which as post #1 suggests is most likely at Plaza San Miguel.

Very very strongly advised not to venture out of the port on foot as the area is unsafe and vendors/taxi drivers quite agressive.

Also wise to leave ALL  jewellery, valuables, passports etc onboard and only venture out with the absolute minimum you might need securely concealed..

I am just back from a Regent Mariner cruise which ended in Callao on November 19. As mentioned above, the Callao port area is very unsafe. If you have a private transfer, you will be taken from the ship on a bus to a staging area outside of the port. Police will be there because it is so unsafe. You definitely should arrange your transportation in advance. Buses will park in a confined area where police will be present to protect you. Your transportation will also arrive in the same area to connect with you.
Enjoy your cruise!

Thank you for indicating it is unsafe.  As to private transfers are there suggestions?

Or are there recommendations for hotels that are safe and have shuttle service from a cruise ship to the hotel?

Do they have Uber and is it safe?

Should we work with a hotel and have them arrange the transportation?

Thanks.
