chatuga Posted November 6, 2022 #1 Share Posted November 6, 2022 Doing transatlantic to rio and need to stay one night before heading back to us via SDU. Anyone have a suggestion for reasonable hotel in good location? Was last in rio 40 years ago.
excitedofharpenden Posted November 6, 2022 #2 Share Posted November 6, 2022 (edited) We stayed at the Arena, Copacabana for a couple of nights. It was about half way along the beach in a good location. Nice comfy rooms with big picture windows overlooking the sea, good outside bar and swimming pool. It wasn't too expensive and that was true of generally most of the Rio hotels. I'd stay there again. Rare mj_holiday Posted November 6, 2022 #3 Share Posted November 6, 2022 We stayed at Hotel Porto Bay on Copacabana for 3 nights. It has a great view of the ocean, lots of local restaurants to walk to. We went to Ipanema Beach one afternoon and my impression was that it is mostly condos and not many restaurants on the beach.
java spot Posted November 6, 2022 #4 Share Posted November 6, 2022 If you want something a little different, try Villa Santa Teresa which is up in the hills in a nice residential neighborhood with cool older mansions and some interesting small boutique retail shops, and nice restaurants. The views are amazing.
Mackdogmolly Posted November 6, 2022 #5 Share Posted November 6, 2022 Haven’t stayed there yet, but some of us on the March 2023 Rio to Lisbon cruise are booked at the Sol Ipanema pre cruise. Also a reasonably priced hotel across from the beach.

Rare brazilgirl Posted November 26, 2022 #7 Share Posted November 26, 2022 If you like “unique”, Mama Ruisa in the Santa Teresa district is an incredible old mansion run by a French man with impeccable taste. ( I lived in Brazil for 33 years, so have been to many hotels).
