Luminosa Toilet Apology

Recommended Posts

Will report on the positive aspects of Luminosa cruise once home, but excited this morning to get a friendly face on Guest Services (first one - yesterday's left me in tears). Day 5 and still no working toilet in cabin. It worked once in the night so we wrongfully assumed they may have fixed it. No!!! Extremely inconvenient and trying not to let it put a dark shadow on our cruise and mood. At least today Guest Services apologised and took our cabin number. Apparently major problem on back half of ship. Of course we understand problems happen, it is the first cruise for this ship. The only real disappointment is the rude service at Guest Services. Today's staff member was a fresh change.

Sorry to hear guest services left you in tears.  Is the ship full?  Surely they could have shifted you to a cabin with a working toilet.  Pleased you got better service from guest services today. Despite great itineraries in the South Pacific, I never booked HAL because the ships always seemed to have maintenance problems.  I hope Luminosa isn't going to be the same!

"always" That's a rather sweeping statement. Have you done any HAL cruises that had mainteance issues?

On my one and only Princess cruise our cabin had similar problems to the OPs. This coloured my attidude to Princess (along with some food issues) but I have not written it off.

Having had many HAL cruises I have only ever seen one maintenance(?) problem - a cracked window in the Crows Nest which was quickly fixed.

I never booked HAL because the ships (which I looked at booking) always seemed to have maintenance problems.  HAL had the best itineraries in the South Pacific and I was seriously tempted to book with them, except for these issues (blocked/overflowing toilets, leaks, from memory).

You're right about the itineraries. It's one one the main reasons why, in the past, I have booked HAL over Celebrity. My next cruise is on Westerdam Jan 4 Sydney/Singapore. I had done a similar cruise on HAL Volemdam and the itinerary is different again with ports to which I have not previoulsy been.

Which triggered a memory of a maintenance issue on Volendam somewhere between Darwin and Indonesia. One of its generators failed. I fibbed - sorry. I think I have mentioned this previously on this board. The captain shut down the ship for a few hours, while it was repaired, which left us drifting in lovely sunshine on a smooth sea. All power was shut down while repair work was carried out except for the bridge and the casino. There is a chance I will be on Nieuw Amsterdam next June Vancouver/Whittier via Inside Passage, which I have done twice before with Celebrity,  which also includes a place to which I have not previoulsy been.

It is always lovely to visit new places.

You've got more patience and forebearance than I have! I think they should have moved you to a new cabin if it couldn't be fixed by day 2. No toilet and it's day 5? Tell them they're dreaming!
