I dug out the old conifers and replaced all the conifers (22conifers)down the side of our back garden about 20 years ago.

My knee and hip arthritis prevents me from trimming them now but we have a great tree surgeon who calls every spring to shape and trim them to the 15 foot height.

We have a hedge trimmer that Pauline likes to use on the conifers in our front garden.

A friend who had an elaborate English-style garden, with more than 100 varieties of roses and many other special plantings (think Sissinghurst in extreme miniature) replaced almost everything with conifers when arthritis made it too difficult to maintain, keeping only her three dozen favorite rose varieties.
