Good morning all!  It is snowing here and it is sticking, so I won't be going out - Pat is going for a haircut.  I will do some sewing and ironing, and maybe make some meringues for an Eton Mess.  In this weather, the hummingbirds just sit on the feeders, they are out of the weather.  Poor guys!   We have some leftover pot roast for dinner tonight, so that's easy.

Hope all is going well with @smitty34877's surgery.   Graham, looks like your latest surgery is healing well!

We visited Santarem in 2019 on our Amazon cruise.  We took a walking tour around Santarem and then by bus out to a rubber plantation, and to see the manioc "factory" where it is used to make tapioca.  I remember in boarding school we used to call tapioca "glue pudding".  Most of my pictures are like the ones before, but I'll add a few.

Good morning everyone. I'm up very early and off to PT. Love the quote.

Happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate. We have a giant menorah and tree in our clubhouse. We gather every evening to light the candles for 8 nights. This is my family many years ago. Each child has their own menorah.

No photo description available.

Another beautiful family.  You are blessed.

Good morning and thanks all!  Great photos of the port, Lenda, Anne and Sandi!  Nice to see them.
@smitty34877 praying all goes well!
We’re hibernating,  minus 37 windchills are just too much, we did go out in minus 31 yesterday but not much fun!  I worry about the poor animals,  a dog went missing last night.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

I like some hard candy, like the Starlight peppermints, Jolly Ranchers and lemon drops. I will salute heroes and heroines. My evergreen is artificial, lol. The price of fresh Christmas trees is out of sight this year. True quote. I'd take the meal without olives (don't like them at all). Maybe on the drink and pass on the wine. I like Roy's meal as well.

I haven't been to Santarem.

It remains cold here, 25F, and cloudy. Wind chill around 12F. I don't want to go outside! Probable snow on Thursday and Friday, with subzero wind chills, so I'll get the salad fixings and other fresh stuff on Wednesday. A high of 12F on Saturday! I think I'll wrap presents today, and continue getting the house in order.

@smitty34877 Thinking of you today and prayers for your successful surgery.

@rafinmd Thank you for maintaining our lists.

@grapau27 Good that the stitches are out; the wound looks good.

@summer slope Thanks for the photos.

@mamaofami Nice family photo.

@Seasick Sailor That lobster tail looks good!

@kochleffel Good to hear that all went well with the dinner and concert.

@StLouisCruisers Hoping for a good report for DD tomorrow. Thanks for the Santarem pictures.

@Quartzsite Cruiser Great photos.

@Vict0riann Nice Santarem photos.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for the Celebration List.

Stay safe and healthy everyone.

Good morning all!

It started snowing yesterday, 26F now.  The snow stuck and accumulated, but not a lot.  My BFF in Bellingham said they got 1-3 inches, we probably don't even have 1".

I'll pass on the hard candy and take all the chocolate. 😉  I salute heroes and heroines, and since I live in the Evergreen State it's very hard NOT to see an evergreen.  We're surrounded by them on our street.

I've had this wine and liked it, will pass on the drink and would only like the meal without the olives.  Like Vanessa @JazzyVI don't like them at all.

I never got around to wrapping presents yesterday, so must get at that today.

Sad news from our son last night -- their next-door neighbor who they have gotten very friendly with had a stroke!  He's only a little older than our son. 😞  Apparently he had it when he was visiting Poland and the doctors there said he was "fine to fly home"....not good.  So our son and DIL are watching their 2 dogs plus their own 2. He has some time in rehab ahead of him after he gets out of the hospital.

Terry @smitty34877we're all thinking of you today and praying for a successful surgery and swift recovery.

I moved some photos around this morning and uploaded to Shutterfly which works perfectly here at home (unlike on the ship!).  So I found the photos we took on November 28 in Santarem Brazil.  Since we had no intention of heading out into the wilderness we stayed in town.  The population of this city was over 300,000!

We got on a Volendam tender to go to shore.  But there were large local boats taking on passengers from a large barge they tied up to a different tender platform.  The boats were tall and must have been difficult for people to board without the barge.  I assumed these boats were there for shore excursion people.  We would see how this would cause problems later disembarking the people at the pier.

We walked across the street where there was supposedly a tourist information center, but it really was a shopping spot, and a place where locals hawked their tour/taxi service.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVLVS5beit9NnqSMkx3OL6NI5cYdfB3jRoL_VZILaXEufg?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1671459436

On that side of the street was a wide, sunny (HOT) esplanade along the water.  We took that route and saw lots of boats pulled up to shore.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVJgne-J5TjhcRXA0buHmaff4xJ2Twu75QF_jizMkB1ZdA?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1671459469

Across from the church was a place where vendors set up tents.  These soccer jerseys were probably big sellers.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVJWeI5u0UXyrgEfmlmDPa125cYdfB3jRoL_VZILaXEufg?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1671461482

Once at the Square we took the very warm bus back to the pier.  We waited in a few square feet of shade for the tender, but first one of those large boats arrived with Volendam passengers onboard.  However they couldn't figure out how to get them off due to height differences in the pier and boat decks.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVKm-zXiY1Enrnn4reT17BKr4xJ2Twu75QF_jizMkB1ZdA?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1671461489

They lowered this "gangway" from the bow but I wasn't sure how this would work with some of the unsteady walkers on the boat.  00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVI3mrW5lD9WYkva1U3I0p68UnDnu4gHHWpfyYq5WwzmNg?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1671461494

I never did find out how it was done because our ship's tender arrived to ferry us back.  00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVLv8VKI1ZiKqEZyiTRkGHjFaAUrgnwgvQnZ_1RWb7NZPA?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1671461495

That was our day in Santarem.  Just another view from the Amazon

Thank you for the nice photos Sandi.

Thank you for the Monday report, Rich.  I like hard candy but prefer something softer.  I think looking for evergreens is a bit harder than usual with a short supply.  We have many heroes and heroines to celebrate.  I like the Winnie-the-Pooh quote.  I've been to Santarem twice, both times on the Elegant Explorer.  I think I'll pass on the meal.  My alternative is Fruit Salad with Yogurt and Honey, Grilled Chicken Breast with Louisiana Style Rice, and Apple Sundae as served on MS Prinsendam December 19, 2013.

Today’s care list:

smitty34877 hip replacement
USN59-79 with leg fracture
Marshhawk DH family illnesses
StLouisCruisers DD recovering from foot surgery

@grapau27 Graham, I hope your incision is healing nicely.

Sue and I spent the afternoon watching YouTube videos  regarding the Carnival Legend sailing from Baltimore. Sue, DSIL, and I will be onboard in a little over a month. This will sound strange but I'll be glad when it is over as it has actually been rebooked three times plus a different ship. Thanking DSIL for watching Sam while we were in Europe last month. Looking forward to just driving 3-1/2 hours to cruise though. Hopefully we don't have bad weather for the drive?

Good morning, everyone!

We will have a couple days of decent weather before we get dumped on with snow.  Thursday and Friday are looking bad.  I hope Sue makes it down either Thursday right after work or Friday morning before the Friday storm.  Due to snow on the ground and cold temperatures, I am going to the gym this morning instead of doing an outside walk.

@smitty34877 Thinking of you today.

@grapau27 It looks like you have healed up well!

Today's meal sounds really good to me.  I did something similar years and years ago in the slow cooker.  This first recipe comes to us from Australia.  Use whichever chicken parts you like.   https://www.lovefood.com/recipes/103275/braised-chicken-with-almonds-olives-raisins-and-lemon-recipe

Here is a west coast version.  It is a version of the restaurant Barbacco's dish.   https://gregnelsoncooks.com/2021/04/02/braised-chicken-thighs-with-olives-and-almonds/

I think DD's foot is doing okay but we'll know more tomorrow after the surgeon visit.    Looks like a great time on your cruise.  The lobster looks good!

Good morning.  Extra thoughts and prayers for @smitty34877Terry with her hip surgery today.

The old spicy hard candy that @marshhawkAnnie mentioned is the smell of Christmas to me.  It was always down at the bottom of the stockings.  The smell of Christmas morning.

Thanks @GTVCRUISERfor the beautiful photo of Balboa Park.  Your photos are always a treat.

You have a beautiful family @mamaofami.  The photo is a treasure. @kochleffel, happy that your Hanukkah dinner went well, also.  We will have a Hanukkah dinner with DD and DSIL on Wednesday.

@Seasick Sailor, Amber Cove looks beautiful.  It looks like you're enjoying wonderful weather -- and food!

@grapau27, they did a good job on your face.  Your backyard is amazing.

@dfish, the recipes look really good.  I think I've concocted something similar before -- but not as good.  Definitely saving the recipes.

Thanks @Quartzsite Cruiserfor the great photos.  And also @StLouisCruisersfor providing the link.  We'll never get the yellow fever vaccination, so photos of that part of the world are a treat.

Thanks everyone for the wine, drink, jokes and other photos -- and especially for our care and celebration list.  Wishing everyone a rock solid Monday.  Get those presents wrapped!

Good afternoon from a chilly SE Wisconsin.  Was 5F this morning, now around 15F.  The forecast for the rest of the week is not good-more cold, and then a possible blizzard coming our way.  We've been lucky the last few winters!  @smitty34877 hoping your surgery goes well today, and your recovery is easy!  @grapau27your face looks like it's doing well.

Thanks for sharing all of your travel pictures!  Have a great week!

Hard Candy Day brings back fond memories of time spent at my grandparents house.  There was always a candy bowl, I believe the preferred brand was Brachs.

@0106  YES !! the hard candy shown first, is what I was talking about.  There was always one flavor, that was sort of a sweet clove. I miss them!

@smitty34877I hope that the surgery went well this morning, that you are pain free as can be, and that you are getting rest!

@dfishDH and I went for option 4,  i have half of the ingredients, but once I printed it out, I realized I will need to know how to make smoked paprika and sun dried tomato potlikker.  Oh, and the olives I have are not the Greek Kalamata, but I can get those at the Farmers market.  We are going there tomorrow.  So, tonight is Chicken breast stuffed with cheese and asparagus(low in carbs frozen food), roasted yellow squash with a topping of chopped onion, chopped olive and pimento, and a salad.

Breakfast this morning with old friends was very enjoyable, we did have a moment of silence for Shari, Terry and I realized the last time we were all together was at that restaurant.  The last couple of years so many of us have lost loved ones.  I am hoping that next year is healthier for all of us, our families and our friends.

Good afternoon from a still very dreary and cold (for us) central Texas.  At least, the rain has stopped, and the laundry is washed, dried, folded and put away.

@grapau27  Graham, the place on your face looks like it is healing well.

@StLouisCruisers Sandi, and @Vict0riann Ann, thanks for your pictures of Santarem.  On both our visits we saw very little of the town.

@Cruising-along  Carolyn, how awful for your DS's neighbor.  I hope he will fully recover and be back to normal after the stint in rehab.  It's good of your DS and DDIL to look after the neighbor's dogs.

@marshhawk  Annie, I hope Bubbles was not too badly injured in the cat fight (or was it an attack?).

Now, it's time to get serious about my grocery list for Christmas and for DD and DSIL's visit next week.  I know what I'm planning to make, but need to get the ingredients that I don't have.  I plan to make an early grocery run tomorrow morning before we head to Waco.  DH has his two month post-op doctor's appointment tomorrow afternoon.  We are expecting good news from the appointment.

At least, tonight's dinner will be easy.  I'm reheating the last of the stuffed peppers we had last week.  I really like it when a recipe has enough for more than one meal.  Tomorrow will also be easy after a long afternoon.  I'll be making chicken fajitas with all the trimmings.

@Quartzsite CruiserPoor Bubbles he was no match for the Uggles.  At first it was just some cat a walling and then Bubs sat up and when he did, Uggles just leapt on top of him, and knocked him over on his back.  He put up no fight at all, it was pathetic, fur was flying everywhere. Uggles had him pinned.   Until i walked over and asked him what did he think he was doing?  And he ran off.  Today is cold and cloudy and once I let him off the porch a little after 8 this morning, I have not seen him since.

The Feral Fawn has been ill all day, and is not very happy with her back end.  She is on the porch.

I know that Uggles is living on his own outside, and he's hungry and he wants a place that's warm to hang out, but not when he attacks the elderly.  I have a bed in a box for any stray that wants it, and i leave food out for them at night.  Of course the possum seems to show up before the strays, and then we get hit with the raccoons, but none of them want to sleep in the box.

There were three packages delivered this afternoon.  One I had been expecting since Friday.  Good.  The next one, I was expecting today.  Good.  But I didn't know what the third one was.  I brought them in, the third one was quite heavy.  I opened the box, and it was my computer for the Hollywood Bowl.  I get to sell through TM. 🙀 Needed a second computer.  We dont start until mid January, so I was very surprised to see it this early, especially during the holiday season.

I was also surprised that there was no gift from the company this year for Christmas.  Last year they sent Chuck and I a gift at Starbucks.  Have not used it.

That's very sad news about your son's neighbor having a stroke and being told he was fine to fly home.  I hope it hasn't affected his recovery too badly.  It's nice the neighbor doesn't have to worry about his dogs after your son's generous offer to help.

This is your lucky day!   Our 2017 visit was just like yours.  The first time (2013) was foggy and rainy.  A beautiful place to visit.

Greetings from Cabo San Lucas.

@smitty34877the elevator map is Monday and IIRC that is the day of your surgery - my prayers for you from the Koningsdam that all goes well 🙏🏻

@StLouisCruisersoh dear on your son’s neighbour and flying home after a stroke 😱 I hope all goes well for him.  One of my husband’s BFF’s was flown home when he shouldn’t have been.  It wasn’t a happy ending.  Prayers that is not the case for your son’s neighbours.

Will try to catch up if it is possible.  Had a busy day on board doing hot and cold contrasts 😂. Off to hear the mariachi performers - hoping it doesn’t sadden me too much but it’s a must.  Edited to say oops - that’s at 6 - it’s Music Latina now. Lincoln Centre Stage.

Take care all

Sorry but that would be Carolyn @Cruising-along's DS whose neighbor had the stroke.  I was simply replying to her.  No matter who the poor person was who had a stroke and didn't get proper care, it is a very sad story.  Prayers for that neighbor.🙏
