This summarizes the idea of my multiple posts on this thread. We either deal with it or stop cruising on RCI. At this time, I will keep cruising but the threshold of when I stop will be getting closer with reports like yours. You are not alone in your evaluation of the situation and I have three cruises planned next year. The results might be a breaking point for future reservations if they reflect your experiences. Thank you for a well balanced, thoughtful post.

One can only imagine what's going on over at Rustbucket Cruise Lines.

Disclaimer:  For general consumption, YES, I do dislike Rustbucket Cruise Lines and it is MY OPINION that the cliental on RCCL is several steps above RBCL and I sure hope it stays that way.

You have options.   Retaliate with:

1. Bagpipe Music

2. Yoko Ono Songs

3. Repetition of Whitney Houston "I Will Always Love Youuuuuuuuu uuuuuahhhh oooooo"  ...(gag)

Any of the above should get the message across!  😄

Whoa, got to throw the musical flag on that comment for flagrant comparison of voices being similar (I know your goal was to gather major musical irritation for public consumption)! 😵

Bagpipes, while irritating to some, have a special white-noise all of their own and will in most cases, after hours of exposure, put a baby to sleep with their constant base tonal components. Your ears and brain can gently get immune to the vibrations.

Whitney, well, she had some pipes that most singers would hope to have and I think my statement about singing to babies is very similar but I give a one hour exposure and they are sound asleep. I gotta give Whitney her due.

Yoko Ono Songs, OK, I will watch the replay monitor and speakers. In most cases, I WILL pick up my musical penalty flag.  I do not think there are arguments I can make against throwing the flag and most babies will probably not sleep for weeks after exposure. 😇

But .. u gotta admit .. bagpipes and Yoko Ono would be THE perfect revenge to the Reggaeton and hip-hip blasting crowd who are being obnoxious and rude .. in fact, I think it would cause their ears to bleed.   LOL

But that particular Whitney song is obnoxious enough to cause people to flee too ... especially if repeated!  LOL

1. Love it!!  🙂 🙂   I do like them in some instances For instance love Amazing Grace on the bagpipes.  Can't imagine it on the pool deck of a cruise ship though.  That would be the ultimate juxtaposition.

2.  Good stuff

3. I actually really like that song, but if you put it on repeat it would be pure torture.  😄

In the UK these people with their loud boom boxes are known as Chavs. The way to deal with said chavs is to ask them to turn it down or it goes for a swim......🤣

And you could find yourself swimming along with the chavs boombox. 😂

Agree on the rudeness, however, you said if you would have  had a speaker you would have blared your country music. Good thing you didnt or the real person bothered would have been the people around both of you.

I would argue but I would have to bring in musical experts and your theories might be somewhat persuasive.

Your Honor, I would like to withdraw my penalty flag for lack of clear and concise evidence to contradict these particular observations and statements. 🤐

Ugh, this is my pet peeve. I snagged myself a great spot in the shade on a beach excursion once, only to have a family park themselves nearby playing country music really loudly. I moved. I've also had this happen at the cabanas at Coco Cay but it wasn't quite as loud or annoying. And in the solarium on Anthem, which is just a head-shaker to me. You are indoors in a public space, and you're the DJ now??

Like many others, it's not worth the fight to me. But yes, it detracts from the experience and crew should absolutely stop it happening in indoor spaces.

As a battling sound, I wonder if an audiobook would work?   Or maybe one of those religious chant CD's?   I think the chants sound pretty neat, but I can't see them blending with music.

This is a novel suggestion, a continuous "OOOOoooooommmmmm,......OOOOOOoooommmmm",  something peaceful against offensive music. Unless they are a dedicated spiritual specialist, they will not be able to handle more than 29 minutes. I know, my wife used to use the CD for meditation. This will definitely extinguish any party fires or residual burning embers. It is one big lullaby.  😁😌😪🤤😴

Just returned from 7 day carib cruise and experienced this issue almost daily. People bringing their speakers with them to venues like sorrento's and just blasting their music. One family brought huge setup to labadee beach and were playing reggaeton music during entire stay at the beach. worst thing was cabana next to us on Coco Cay was blasting hiphop with tons of profanity. Question is not the type of music or lyrics - question is the fact that these devices are allowed in public venues. Clearly you can not reason with there "DJ"s as a group next to us in coco just said that we paid a lot of money for this cabana and want to have a good time with our favorite tunes. The fact that we wanted to hear the sound of waves crashing on the sand was not their concern. I know that crew and beach staff will do everything to avoid any type of confrontation and for us anything further would mean physical stand off. I really wish I had a speaker to put some country music facing their way.

You could sail out of Puerto Rico and see them pull out their own instruments on the pool deck and start playing as if they were your entertainment on the cruise.  Yes, you would leave in a flash.

We do usually take a small bluetooth speaker on car trips.   I would have left it in the car while cruising since it is just a back-up to the car's bluetooth connection, which can be flaky.   The speaker isn't particularly loud.  Now I think I need to bring it onboard and have loaded onto my phone:

  • Bagpipe music, thinking Danny Boy - something I wouldn't mind hearing.
  • Religious chants
  • Opera, preferably of the earworm variety like La Donna Mobile.

I seem to hear mostly "Country Bob and the Twang Brothers" when I'm out on the balcony. Of course, with a sprinkle of other genres.

You must cruise out of Galveston.

Yes, that's a joke.  Galveston is one of my favorite ports.

It’s not hard; that’s a cop out.
it’s black and white, right and wrong.

What is so wise about refusing to confront the issue yourself?

if more of these inconsiderate people were confronted, then perhaps they would think twice about pulling a stunt like that again.

Again, this is just me, but I never ever back down from a situation like this; if nothing else, it forces management to address the issue.

I believe I understand why they didn't do anything - it's because people are crazy, and unless you are prepared to 1) physically defend yourself and when you do defend yourself, be prepared to most likely  2) be placed in the brig and 3) not allowed to cruise RC ever again, you let management handle it.

My group witnessed something awful on Independence, while waiting for the MTD person to call our reservation number. There was a medium-sized guy, not super built but somewhat built who was vocally reacting to each reservation called with some sort of comment. He was unhappy that he was having to wait. Comments like "Lies!" and "They are lying." were flying around. We tend to think he was overserved as well.

An older woman (I'm 62, I'm guessing she was somewhere around my age) confronted him. She was sitting on on of the couches/seats outside the MDR, and in a calm voice, she said something like "Now, that's enough. You've said enough". This guy said "YOU GOT SOMETHING TO SAY TO ME?" and stepped over to her and punched her in the face.  To be quite honest, I witnessed the comments and behavior, but our number had just been called (LIES!) and a server was taking us to our table. As soon as we started walking, I asked the server if he could call security, and he said it was being handled, but I did not see the punch, I asked for verification regarding the woman being punched from a couple of the servers and they confirmed that's what happened.

I remain stunned. I trained in martial arts. I am older now, but could maybe still defend myself, but who would ever think some drunk jerk would punch an older woman in the face ...

While hindsight is 20/20, I'm thinking I would have requested to be seated elsewhere.
