The Coast Guard has closed Ambrose Light Pilot Station, therefore, both Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Gem will remain overnight in New York, again. Shore leave has been granted and all aboard time will be 5:30am, tomorrow morning.

Norwegian Gem: Norwegian Gem will remain alongside Pier 88 South this evening, and departure is now scheduled for 6am tomorrow morning, December 24th, 2022. As a result of the overnight and late departure, San Juan has also been canceled. The ship will now proceed directly to St. Thomas. In lieu, Norwegian is offering all guests a $100 per stateroom onboard credit and a 15% off coupon for a future Norwegian Cruise, as compensation for the delay and itinerary adjustment.

Norwegian Getaway: Norwegian Getaway will remain alongside Pier 88 North this evening, and departure is now scheduled for 6am tomorrow morning, December 24th 2022. There are no anticipated changes in the itinerary and the ship will arrive in Port Canaveral, as scheduled, on Monday morning.

GEM came in early & fast early yesterday morning, about the same time as QM2 from Southampton for NY Red Hook's BCT.  QM2 managed to complete her turnaround and sailed, left for St Thomas, USVI last night (as the Getaway was racing in from Bermuda)  ... a true ocean liner with faster speed & perhaps, better designed for rougher crossings no matter what.

Here on the north side, things in the LI Sound aren't bad, wind gusts lower than predicted or expected, 50 mph is fine.  Fios & powerlines in our neck of the wood are underground ... utilities outage map showing only a handful of scattered issues.  Niece up in Monroe County near Rochester, that's an entirely different story with warnings in full force and shutdown except for essential travel for WNY region ... they are used to blizzards, whiteout conditions & lake effects - drive only with 4 ice & snow rated tires ...

Safety first when it comes to taking these cruise ships thru stormy seas, better to stay put - can't see how ship captains can find a path to go south tonight, even in the morning, sea states & waves & swells still not looking pretty.

OK, this sucks but it's a circumstance beyond NCL's control.  They're doing more than they're actually mandated to do here.  I think most of us have been on a cruise that has skipped (at least) one port.  I can't remember the number of times my cruises have skipped GSC.  Granted, San Juan isn't GSC and as a passenger I would be bummed, but what choice does NCL have?

This is beyond the control of NCL. Risk you take cruising out of NY in winter, the mid Atlantic can get ugly this time of year. People just need to go with the flow and enjoy the rest of their cruise as at least they are cruising, better than the headache of trying to fly to Florida from the north to cruise as flights have been cancelled all over
