Haven Butler Tipping Question

I have finally achieved enough wins/losses in the casino that they said "where do you want to go?" and "the casino will cover it." So they comp'ed a Haven Courtyard Penthouse with large balcony. While I have been on many cruise lines and ships, I've never used a butler/concierge on a cruise before. What is the proper amount to tip for a butler on a 7 and 10 day cruise where the butler does not do anything unusual (no parties, events, etc.)?

Congrats on the comp.  You must have spent a fortune so its well deserved.  A butler tip is a personal decision on how much you use them.  They will deliver daily treats even if you don't request anything special.  There is no rule of thumb.  We never asked for dinner deliveries or parties and just had simple requests and for one week over the past 10 years the tip I would leave would be around $100.  If you dont use them for anything then less would be appropriate.   The butler duties changed too. Many years ago the butler did much more including escorting you to shows with seats, etc.   Everyone will have a different opinion because everyone has different experiences.  Some have butlers who check in twice a day while others say they rarely see their butler.

When I use the butler for more then the minimum tasks I usually tip $200 for a 7 day cruise. I always Tip $100 in the beginning and if i use hom more during the cruise i tip an additional $100

This is exactly what we do.  I'll tip him or her along the way too for special requests, etc.  It's in my budget for the cruise 😀

We always tip at the end of the cruise for services rendered. On the last day of the cruise, there will be envelopes on the Concierge desk to use for tipping 🙂

When people ask, I share our approach...

Butler: $10-$15 per person in cabin per days of cruise.

Concierge: $5-$10 pp per days of cruise

Stateroom Steward: $5-$10 pp per days of cruise (they are part of the DSC, but have a much higher standard to keep your large stateroom).

Thank you much; $100 for the week. I have seen other forums advise that the butlers do not earn a salary and ALL they earn is tips. Any information on this?

Actually, it was more the wins; 8 mid size wins on one cruise 🙂 so I was using much of the casino's money. 🙂

They also charge more in the dailies for a haven room as well.

We always tip them extra regardless of room types but just pointing out there is already extra taken out.

They get a salary but not part of the tipping pool which makes their tips so important.
