shark b8 Posted May 18, 2023 Author #1126 Share Posted May 18, 2023 A drive up to Monte Verde, the highest point on this island (São Vicente), provided a spectacular view, although the haziness didn't help. Yes, the Sojourn is in the harbor there, but hard to tell.

Yeah, I thought so too. “Workers, unite behind us as we march ever onward to greater glory” kinda stuff.

Willing to work with anyone who can make this happen. 😉 Truthfully, my usual modus operandi is to go into a funk about a week before a trip ends, and there is some of that melancholy here, but…..five months is a long time. I’m looking forward to the usual stuff we all talk about - sleeping in my own bed, showering in a space more than 8” wider than I am, etc. 3

I mentioned to Mr. SLSD just today that our next one needs to be at LEAST 21 days to make the whole thing worth it. He agreed with me. This is our test cruise post pandemic.
shark b8 Posted May 18, 2023 Author #1132 Share Posted May 18, 2023 Sailaway from Mindelo. That strange rock thing on the way out is a lighthouse. And the sailaway music was my kinda stuff - ancient, musically-jaded curmudgeon that I am. 🙄 IMG_6892.MOV

shark b8 Posted May 18, 2023 Author #1134 Share Posted May 18, 2023 Don’t know any details about this - and perhaps guessing it has long-since been brought up on CC in a thread I missed - so, ignore if so. Elon Musk (love him or hate him), can you further improve Seabourn connectivity?!
shark b8 Posted May 18, 2023 Author #1135 Share Posted May 18, 2023 Also Mindelo. For the dog-people among us, the Cape Verde island dogs seem pretty happy - too skinny perhaps, but always approaching us in definite waggy-mode.

Next to last pic is entitled “The Door of No Return”. (re the last pic: the ferry sailed by the Global Mercy, a large floating hospital. Full disclosure - I’ve done a monthly donation thing to this organization for years, they perform surgeries on people of little means, who would otherwise never be able to receive them. As the CC Guidelines correctly warn against blatantly soliciting for third parties, I’ll merely say that this organization….exists). 😉 My best friend spent a year volunteering on Mercyships. It was a wonderful experience.

The rural area around our farm in deep East Texas is rife with religious organizations. If you drive through the back roads of the area, you will see them everywhere. I have always been a bit suspicious of them and thought they might just be "money making" organizations disguised as religious charities. The headquarters for Mercy Ships is on one of these back roads. I was suspicious of them as well--until a physician we know (a classmate of mine from childhood) told us that he had volunteered on one of their ships and that they do good work. We went to this same physician's wedding and the reception afterwards --which was catered by Mercy Ships! I went into the kitchen and talked to some of the catering staff and they told me that they also work on the ships. Their food, by the way, was quite good. OK. This is the end of a terribly off topic comment--brought on by a photo of a Mercy Ship ship off of the coast of Africa. shark b8 Posted May 22, 2023 Author #1144 Share Posted May 22, 2023 (edited) The Opera House in Las Palmas, on Gran Canaria, with its view down the beach. (The last one’s for you Lynn, a bit of distance away, near the beach, is this statue of Alfredo Kraus). Edited May 22, 2023 by shark b8
shark b8 Posted May 22, 2023 Author #1145 Share Posted May 22, 2023 (edited) The little village of Arucas was celebrating “Piedra y Flor” (stone and flower) with elaborate displays around town. It’s a late May festival and I think I’ve already forgotten our guide’s further explanation of it. 😳 Edited May 22, 2023 by shark b8
shark b8 Posted May 22, 2023 Author #1146 Share Posted May 22, 2023 Provisioning going on, when we returned to the ship. So for anyone boarding in Barcelona….fear not, there will be champagne.
shark b8 Posted May 22, 2023 Author #1147 Share Posted May 22, 2023 (edited) It wasn’t Indian Market Dinner last night, just Indian-themed night.
