Which cruise line for Australia/New Zealand cruise?

After receiving a Viking Ocean brochure, we have now decided we would like to take a cruise to Australia/New Zealand.  The Viking price is very interesting but I would like to check out other cruise lines.

If you have done a cruise to Australia/New Zealand, what cruise line do you recommend.

Thanks so much for any input.

I only cruise Aus and NZ really it comes down to your likes, your status with any line we love Princess and Celebrity, others like Carnival others like …. You can go on for days, everyone has different likes.

There are quite a few cruise lines that cruise to New Zealand, we have done,  Royal Carribean, Princess, Celebrity, doing Cunard next month.  Princess will be Australian dollars onboard, whereas Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Cunard US dollars.  I think the main difference between these cruise lines and Viking is there are no casinos on board Viking and I believe child free (not 100% sure), and Viking will be US dollars.  Most of the cruises do the Fjords Milford Sound, and normally both the North and South Islands, hope this helps and does not confuse you more.

You might want to post this in the Australia/NZ cruisers board rather than a board about particular ports. I expect you will get way more responses over there.

Viking is a more upmarket line than Holland America, Royal, Princess, Cunard, Celebrity and P&O Aust and will be more $$$s. I would focus firstly on the itinerary and then choose which line. We are booked on a P&O Aust 14 day cruise to NZ in March and it is very cheap but only has 4 ports in NZ (plus the Fjordlands cruising) which I would definitely not choose if it was our first cruise to NZ. We do not get to go to Bay of Islands, Tauranga or Auckland but we do have a stop in Melbourne. If you are keen to stop at Christchurch make sure the port is Lyttelton/Christchurch rather than Akoroa which is a very long bus ride from Christchurch.
