FirstTimeRiver Posted January 10, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 10, 2023 We are leaving on a Celebrity cruise of the Eastern Mediterranean in May. Fly to Venice but most ships now leave out of port of Ravenna due to water issues. What's the best way to get from Venice to Ravenna?

He is traveling with his wife and 2 daughters. They didn’t realize that the port is 2 hours away, and thought they could see Venice. If you get any info please contact me. Jubanmath at aol dot com. JHLH821 Posted January 10, 2023 #3 Share Posted January 10, 2023 Trains run frequently and are reliable: several companies operate between both cities. I believe most require 1 transfer, but it is best to check the dates and times on each site. https://www.thetrainline.com/ https://www.raileurope.com/ https://www.italiarail.com/ If you prefer to travel by car or shared van- here are a few companies that offer this service: https://www.amauryncc.it/ https://www.venicegroupservices.it/en/

Thanks Search this board for a lot of info on transfers to Ravenna. If at all possible, your son should fly into Venice a couple of days earlier and stay in the city, then transfer to Ravenna on the day of the cruise. FirstTimeRiver Posted January 10, 2023 Author #5 Share Posted January 10, 2023 We are arriving one day early but haven't booked hotel in Venice yet. Any ideas for just a night and close to transport for train?
Rare marazul Posted January 10, 2023 #6 Share Posted January 10, 2023 Search this board. A number of hotels are mentioned in that area. And if you can, add one more night so you have one full day to enjoy Venice.
mapleleaves Posted January 10, 2023 #7 Share Posted January 10, 2023 (edited) Most cruiselines will offer a transfer to Ravenna. You might have to make your way back to the airport to get it though. Not difficult to do; the ATVO Airport Express Bus is like a greyhound bus, takes 20 minutes and costs about 10e pp. The bus leaves from Piazzale Roma which is the last point of land travel in Venice; basically a large parking lot where buses, taxis, and cars drop off tourists. Not a very attractive area, but it's convenient; it's a block from the Grand Canal, and the train station is on the other side of the Canal. This link provides hotels ON the square with no bridges to cross, plus several more hotels if you can easily manage your luggage over 1 small bridge and a block or 2 walking. 'How Many Bridges?' hotel listings for Piazzale Roma | Venice for Visitors (europeforvisitors.com) Info on the Airport Express Bus. It leaves from just outside the exit doors at the airport. You can buy tickts from their machine near the door. Venice Airport bus service (atvo.it) Edited January 10, 2023 by mapleleaves
Rare cruisemom42 Posted January 11, 2023 #8 Share Posted January 11, 2023 Last October, Celebrity offered a transfer to Ravenna for a reasonable price from Venice. The location for pick-up is called Tronchetto and it is the last stop on the People Mover, which many people are already familiar with as the middle stop was the previous cruise port for Venice, Marittima. The People Mover is boarded from Piazzale Roma, so the easiest is to spend a couple of nights in Venice staying on or near Piazzale Roma, then take the People Mover to Tronchetto and board the Celebrity transfer for the several hour drive to Ravenna. I'm quite looking forward to it to honest and seeing a bit of Italy.

There are two long distance train companies in Italy, the state run Trenitalia and the private competitor Italotreno.
