Cknman11 Posted January 14, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2023 Where is the best port to book an excursion for wildlife and eagle viewing? And recommendations on who to book with. We took one in 2014 but forgot where we did it.

Greysandy Posted January 27, 2023 #3 Share Posted January 27, 2023 Not on your list, but we saw the most eagles in Sitka, where they fondly call them Sitka chickens.
islandchick Posted February 6, 2023 #4 Share Posted February 6, 2023 No need to go looking for eagles, they are everywhere. If your cruise stops or starts in Seward, they have great wildlife cruises there.
Glaciers Posted February 6, 2023 #5 Share Posted February 6, 2023 As Crew News mentioned, the Bering Sea Crab Fishermen’s tour in Ketchikan has more bald eagles than any other tour we’ve been on. Juneau is the spot for humpback whale tours with guaranteed sightings. Depending on when you’ll be there, Valdez has frequent bear sightings at the Solomon Gulch Fish Hatchery when the salmon are running.
Italy52 Posted February 7, 2023 #6 Share Posted February 7, 2023 Love the Bering Sea Crab Fishermen's tour. Have taken it a couple of times -- best part of the tour for us is the feeding of the bald eagles. Had a hard time keeping up with the swooping eagles even while shooting in "sports mode." Agree with Crew News and Glaciers -- good tour.

Most of us over 40 have grown up at a time when seeing eagles was a rarity. It took several decades after the DDT ban for the eagle population to recover. Now, bald eagles are no longer a uncommon. Go Eagles!
