PALERMO OR SIRACUSA- Taormina excursion

We are stopping at 2 ports in Sicily - SIRACUSA and PALERMO 

 

going by the maps, Siracusa looks closer to Taormina?? I’m trying to find an excursion that will take us to Taormina. Can anyone recommend?

You cannot reasonably make a day trip from Palermo to Taormina, it would take about four hours of driving time each way.

 

Are you looking for an organized group tour, or a private tour?

You can do it from Siracusa; a bit of a drive but Palermo is definitely out.

On the other hand, have you considered just staying in Siracusa?  Ortygia (very near) is lovely and has some similarities to Taormina with more to see and do and not a long drive away. As well, there are Greek and Roman ruins well worth a visit -- Siracusa was a major city back in the Greco-Roman era.

Ortygia is absolutely lovely and well worth a visit as are the ruins in nearby Syracuse.   Along with a lovely market and great food.
