Yacht Club -- visitors (on the ship, and Ocean Cay) ?

Can I assume that it's permitted for him to enter the area if we wanted to show him around (tour the cabin, or have a drink in the lounge)? When we were in the Haven on NCL a couple of times (when he was not in the Haven), he entered the area with us, we showed him around, and had a couple of drinks in the lounge.

Prior to making the switch this evening, I had booked a (non-YC) cabana for Ocean Cay to split three ways with our friend. Now, since we're in the YC, I suppose I can keep that cabana, or go for one in the YC? Are they different (amenities/service) at all, aside from being in different locations? If we cancelled the current cabana and booked one in the YC, would he be able to utilize it as well?

No, they cannot enter the YC and no, you cannot split a YC Cabana with someone outside the YC.

As others have said the ship might offer a daily, very brief, tour of the YC (pre arranged) for those who are curious about booking. They will be accompanied by a Butler or the YC Director.  YC Guests bringing in nonYC guests is not allowed and the staff will be put in the position of having to awkwardly address it.

Anyone aware of the differences, if any? (Cabana itself, amenities, service)

I never had a cabana outside of the Yacht Club so I can't be sure of the differences.

Having food/drinks delivered is standard in the YC cabanas. If your regular butler happens to be working in that area, he/she might add a bottle of prosecco (or whatever you'd like) to the cooler that already has water/soda, etc. Even if your regular butler isn't there, other butlers will serve you.

I'm not sure if all cabanas have a ceiling fan but I believe that they all have at least 2 floating mats (we had 4). Fresh fruit/skewers were delivered to us every time that we had a cabana. The butler can set up your lounger and umbrella whether you have a cabana or not but if you're not in the YC area, you'll have to do it yourself, get your own drinks, food, etc.

Thanks - that sums it up nicely !

In the interest of "group activities", and the fact that we've cruised with him several times, I guess we'll just keep our OCC14 to share. We'll wander over to the YC part of Ocean Cay and check it out - perhaps enjoying lunch there.

I would say MSC is very protective of YC and it’s guests

Unfortunately that is not exactly the case on the Seascape . The lock was broken on deck 19 Yacht club entrance. We complained to an officer that apologized that it had been broken since the ship left Civitavecchia. Unless a guest leaving from that door makes an effort to close it well, the temporary fix does not work. YC guests returning to the YC are locked out and thus tend not to really close the door adequately as the key card/wrist bands do not work on this particular entrance until it is properly repaired. Hope to be on board in a couple of weeks.

There is no supervision by YC personnel on deck 19. That is why we had it over run by non-YC guests. They were taking up lounge chairs at the One Pool, Smoking in non-smoking areas (where they were sitting in their lounges) enjoying all the benefits of the YC. The only staff member that was not afraid to confront and remove these "interlopers" was the one lowest on the TIP pecking order. The one least likely to be tipped by the guests, the pool attendant. When DW was 'carded' she became indignant until he explained why he was doing it. She came over to me to get a $20 tip, and to apologize to him and tell him to keep up the good work. But when the cat's away....

We took this 12 second video of the broken door.

....My only concern is my cabin- would expect that I can have guests in my cabin and could serve my alcohol or not. I will have my DD and her friend in an Aurea suite with large balcony and hot tub.  I expect we will visit with them there, but would also expect our cabin to be available for a visit if we chose…

Why would you expect that?

On my recent Meraviglia cruise (Jan. 19 - 22), there were four younger men who somehow found their way into the Top Sail Lounge.  They were ordering drinks like crazy at the bar and were very loud and obnoxious.  Someone must have said something to the YC Director because he went over and asked to see their cards.  When he saw they were not YC cruisers, he quietly asked them to leave.  They did not respond well so he told them he would give them a bottle of champagne to leave, or he could call Security if they liked.  They took the bottle and left.  Did not see them again for the rest of the cruise.

Meanwhile, on Cunard, an interloper is caught in the Queens Grill restaurant.

They have cameras overlooking all doors oft the YC from the concierge or YC office. So they will control the entrance anyway. I don't think that your story with the non YC people in the pool area is true.

Who knows, the tale could be somewhat embellished! Certainly, on our first YC cruise, back in 2018 on Meraviglia the starboard side door at pool deck 19 was inoperable and we used it as part of our walks around the deck above main ship centre pool never requiring our YC card. No idea if anyone trespassed, could be possible for a small number but to be over-run by 'interlopers'......🤔

NCL doesn't allow people in the lounge for a drink unless approved which is unlikely in the Haven. So I wouldn't use that as an example. You having done it does not mean its actually allowed.

NCL does however allow you to take guests directly to your room inside the Haven locked area but they should be escorted by you both in and out of the area.

How could you not have guests to YOUR CABIN that you Paid FOR???   Wow….

No clue how MSC handles it but its really not your cabin you are just renting it. Its similar if you were to possibly get a suite at a sporting event, a booth at a night club, or any other elevated place. Those venues all have different rules and restrictions.

Now for a stateroom I wouldn't see any issue with it but no clue how MSC views it.

Ignorance was bliss! With the three of us in there (not at all at a peak time), that left perhaps 85% of the seats still open. Not a defense, just an observation.

We live and learn (well, I hope we all learn as we move along)! 🙂

I totally agree that someone who did not pay for the YC experience should not be allowed the perks.  My only concern is my cabin- would expect that I can have guests in my cabin and could serve my alcohol or not. Because  I paid for the Yacht Club experience. I do not agree with bringing non YC members in even to view cabins. If they want to seethed book  the experience. I did not see a cabin prior to booking/boarding-theres plenty of videos on youtube to see cabins in the YC. Trust me every butler, server and concierge person knows who is in the YC, they have your pictures in their system. They learn who their passengers are... just that you can visit her cabin its not in a private area!

Sorry to be this way-but I paid to be in a private experience, I work hard to pay and enjoy my vacation....

If you're in first or business class on a flight, should you be allowed to bring guests from main cabin to "visit you?"  If you're in a room at a hotel that allows executive lounge access, should you be allowed to bring friends staying in standard rooms to "share the lounge with you?"  If you're in a Queen's Grill cabin on Cunard, should your Britannia restaurant friends be allowed to "dine with you?"  All of those things are designed to accommodate a specific and limited number of people.  Allowing unentitled "guests" and "visitors" affects those that paid for or earned the higher level of privilege.

Yes, all those things and YC are caste systems.  And it's rather black and white.  Pay or earn the privilege to be in a better caste or stay in the caste you're entitled to.  So to the OP, either downgrade from YC to be with your friends or plan on spending time outside of the YC to socialize with them.

The other option you didn't mention is for them to pay more to be in YC with you so I'm guessing that's out of the question based on cost.  That's a choice.  But don't lambast those posting here or MSC for saying the YC is exclusively for those that paid to be part of it.

I’m left to wander how your private experience is, in any way, altered or diminished by a fellow YCer hosting a friend or family member in their cabin or on their balcony…. But hey, you do you!

Let me try…. First, it’s not a “cost issue” - they are young adults and are not interested in the YC experience.  They see it as “old”. So it is a decision. And we intend to dine with them in the evenings in speciality restaurants.

To clarify, an airplane seat, a club lounge or an exclusive restaurant on Cunard are not the same as “my cabin”.  Could you bring someone to visit your hotel room when on a club floor, of course you can - it’s your room!  While you pay for the public spaces in YC and should be entitled to your exclusive experience, your experience does not include my cabin, only yours…. No lambasting here…

I see no reason someone who is staying in the YC shouldn't be able to invite a guest to their room. Yes, the other areas are "off-limits", but in your private area, a guest should (and probably is) allowed for a visit. It doesn't affect anyone else or your experience as a YC guest.

A few years ago when we were in the Haven, a few times, younger guest got into the pool area and it was quite obvious they weren't Haven guests. Our family appreciated when they were escorted out.  As long as the neighboring cabins are quiet, I don't care what goes on in their room.
