OlsSalt Posted February 24, 2023 #2 Share Posted February 24, 2023 We like using the San Diego port too, but wish there were more variety of offerings - but what else can they really do besides Mexican Riviera, Hawaii, and the occasional Panama Canal, and perhaps launching South America trips. More concentrated west coast Central America and upper west coast South America could be interesting. Some great pre-Columbian historical sites cruises could take advantage of this often overlooked area. Though West Coastals are gaining in popularity, at the same time those locations are starting to ban or discourage cruise ships.
Florida_gal_50 Posted February 24, 2023 #3 Share Posted February 24, 2023 I’d love to see 10 or 11 day Mexico trips on the koningsdam not the zaandam. Leave the old ships for longer cruises. The koningsdam can’t transit the canal.
Rare terrydtx Posted February 24, 2023 #4 Share Posted February 24, 2023 Celebrity is pulling out of west coast (Calif) cruises in 2024, so HAL has this segment pretty much to themselves and if they keep the Koningsdam on the west coast they have an even bigger advantage.
SJSULIBRARIAN Posted February 24, 2023 #5 Share Posted February 24, 2023 In 2007, we did a very nice 23 day Panamerican Cruise out of San Diego, down the coast of Mexico, into the Panama Canal with an anchorage overnight in Gatun Lake, then back out of Canal with time in Panama City, and down the coast of South America to Guayaquil, Ecuador, then back up with stops at several Central American ports, additional Mexican ports and then to San Diego. it was on the Ryndam and really wonderful. I would like to see that one again.
