Renting a car and planning on Road to Hana for our upcoming trip in April. Is there places to “ turn around “ half way for whatever reason you have seen enough??

If you are planning on setting out and turning around halfway from Paia to Hana I honestly wouldn't even bother-- to me it wouldn't be worth the effort of renting the car and setting out. When we take folks on the Hana road we typically will drive all the way around but at very least recommend going slightly beyond Hana to the pools at the Kipahulu Visitors Center and then turning back from there. Its going to be a full day.

But like Bruce said, yes, there are plenty of places to pull off to see waterfalls, road side stands, etc which can easily be used to turn around.

Agree with Princeton.  There's not much to see on the way and if you're only iffy on wanting to go all the way, don't bother and go somewhere else.  The last time we took the Road to Hana we found we weren't totally all-in and turned around 75% of the way there as it was taking way more time than we had budgeted for the journey.

Don't get me wrong, it's worth it if it's a nice day and you have the time.

Also, I personally would not book a "halfway to Hana tour".  That's like giving up in advance AND paying for the privilege.

I’ve driven the RTH two times in the last month. It’s hard on the driver. I do agree that all the really good stuff is after the half way point. If you do drive it, be sure to pass Hana and drive all the way to the national park (it’s not much farther than the town of Hana).

Also- I highly recommend purchasing either the shaka or gypsy app for this drive. It will be the best $13 spent as without the app you will very likely miss the good stuff.

Yeah, we had the Shaka Guide as well and it was great...
