Question regarding family members switching rooms

Hi all! I'm new to the forums but have sailed HAL many times. I have a unique situation coming up in May that I wonder if anyone has insight on. We've booked 2 rooms, both casino offers, for my husband and myself, and we're bringing our adult children. Once aboard can we talk to customer service and make it so I can stay with my husband and the kids can stay by themselves? Or will I need to stay with a kid and he gets one? Any ideas are welcome.

Since they are not minor children, it is probably okay.  I believe the rules limit only minors in cabins by themselves.

Security I suppose would need to know who is in each cabin, in case anyone goes missing or there is an onboard emergency and people need to be accounted for.

You need to conply with the terms of your agreement with HAL under the rate code.

I would be surprised if the rate code allowed a transfer of rate. That’s why you booked the cabins the way you did.

You should live up to your commitments.

We have adult children as well, though they aren’t 21 so I couldn’t book them their own room. We will go to the desk and ask for extra keys to each room and will sleep where we like. We did this on Carnival and it worked fine. I read on HAL it is ok too. For your rates, you’ll still be listed on your rooms but no one is doing a bed check to make sure you’re in the right bed.

Both my wife and I get free Neptune Suite offers. We always bring friends or family along. Our first stop is the Neptune Lounge where they switch the rooms for us.

Exactly^

We've done this as well.....easy.  Just have everyone go to guest services first thing when boarding and get everybody the key card they will need.

Thanks, everyone. I will definitely "live up to my commitments" and I've already paid port fees and taxes. I just wondered if I could physically sleep in the other room with my husband. I see that many of you have been in a similar situation and I appreciate your input. We have offers ranging from Neptune suites to ocean views, but this is the first time we've booked an offer for each of us on the same sailing. For the record, the kids are 30 and 31, so well into adulthood and their own lives. We just want to share our vacation with them.

You don't even have to tell anyone you are "switching rooms".  Just tell them at the front desk that you have two rooms for your family and would like everyone to have keys to both.  No problem.  I did this when I booked my daughter and nephew into an inside cabin and she ended up wanting to sleep with us in the Neptune suite.  I just asked for keys for everyone to both rooms and it was done in a flash.  They even let my daughter and nephew into the Neptune lounge, which technically they were not entitled to. But that's another story.

We've done this, and just gotten extra key cards so our family members could get into our suite even if we weren't there.  No reason was needed; just our permission.

The extra cards are ONLY for door access, so they are pretty much blank (at least on other cruise lines).  We just used permanent marker and wrote something like "Grandma's suite" (no room numbers for safety in case card got lost) on all "extra cards".

In our case, we also had a Pack N Play set up in the toddler's room and another one in our suite in case of nap time.

This isn't college in the 1950's... no bed checks! 😱

There might be a problem if young children were left alone in a cabin, but other than that situation, no problem.
