Booking options for those in the USA?

I visited P&O's website and was considering a particular sailing.  However, a phone number referred me to a specific larger travel agency.  While I've booked through them before, I was a bit surprised that there didn't seem to be an option to book directly through P&O.  Is this how it works in the USA with P&O, or are there other options?

My Canadian relatives have booked cruises with a UK TA, when they came on cruises with us. It might be worth your while to phone 1 or 2 of the big online cruise specialists, but the price will be fixed in sterling and subject to the exchange rate when you pay the deposit and balance.

We just booked yesterday with vtg for the Iona, as we are also in the US.  It was frustrating not to see all the options available when trying to book.  We went back and forth until we found a category and cabin we liked, as we were originally told "that was all that was available".  We had the cruise deck plans on our computer when discussing with the ta.
