amyoscar Posted March 12, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 12, 2006 As first time Sea Dream cruisers, we were wondering if SD ever cancels trips for lack of bookings. We are booked (have been for ages) on the October 21st cruise from Pireaus to Malaga. The price was just reduced to $4199 for GTY. It seems to us like they are having trouble filling the ship. Has anyone had an experience with SD where they cancel a cruise for lack of interest? I hope this isn't too dumb a question! Thanks for your help. amyoscar
frequent traveler Posted March 12, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 12, 2006 From personal experience (two times) Sea Dream will charter a lightly booked ship within four months of cruise departure. Just speculation, but I've never heard of a cancellation for "lack of interest" --crew has to be paid anyway. and the ship has to be moved to the beginning point of the next cruise. I know of people who have been on Sea Dream when a cruise was only half booked and the cruise went on. Good luck. FT
Rare DisneyJen Posted March 12, 2006 #3 Share Posted March 12, 2006 On our SD 2 cruise in November we were two of about 40 folks on board for the repositioning from West Palm to STT. It was a wonderful experience:cool: I agree with FT that the expenses for the cruiseline remain the same ... and even a very light sailing still helps to pay the bills for the cruise line. wulicny Posted March 13, 2006 #4 Share Posted March 13, 2006 DJ ... of course you mean the non-champagne costs remain the same, right? ;)
Jim Avery Posted March 13, 2006 #5 Share Posted March 13, 2006 We were on SD II in Mexico December 04, 59 passengers, 98 crew. The best vacation ever, so far. Jim.

emckeeve Posted March 13, 2006 #7 Share Posted March 13, 2006 We took two cruises in 2002 (which was their first year). Nice to Nice had 29 passengers and the one out of St. Thomas in December had 47. It was the height of luxury.
zqvol Posted March 14, 2006 #8 Share Posted March 14, 2006 That is part of the repositioning to South America, it is not likely to be canceled.
amyoscar Posted March 14, 2006 Author #9 Share Posted March 14, 2006 Just wanted to say thank you to all for the reassurances - I will look forward to contacting SD at the end of the summer to see how what the demographics of the passenger list looks like. Can't wait!
