I am trying to buy via HL and it’s showing $1.66 per share! That can’t be right can it?

I got confused by that the other day. They are the correct shares. The $1.66 was the issue price of the shares, not the current price. When you start to buy the shares the current U.K. price (around 665p) comes up.

The market is closed at the moment so you are unable to get a live price. The market reopens at 8am Monday

Question

as it says in some of it that the shareholder obc can’t be used in conjunction with other offers.

so I have booked direct with p&o- I got extra obc as I booked whilst on the ship and the free parking etc.

If I buy shares will I get obc or will I not as I already have obc due to offers from the ship

I’m not forking out for shares if I can’t use it to my advantage- I know I can always sell the shares but it’s not money I really have to spare unless it’s for a good cause

You can use shareholder obc with all the things you mention.

It cannot be used with special fares such as those given to travel agents, employees etc.

how do you know if it’s a special fare? It was the same on the website and onboard so I’m guessing it’s not special

just seems worth it. I have 4 cruises booked. I’d get £420obc and the shares are about £700.

If you are a member of the general public, you cannot buy a special fare.

yes I am only a pleb 😂

well I’ve bought some. £666 it’s just cost me.
blaming you if this goes wrong 😳

You won't regret it with the cruises you have booked. I only bought mine early last year albeit at £5 something and I'm already in credit after 4 cruises. As Wowzz said you   like me will not be able to access special fares as we are not special TA or industry people.

Update (as I started this thread).

Having tried and failed to use Freetrade, I opted for Hargreaves Lansdown, as you can speak to a human in the U.K. when you get a bit stuck or have a query (as I did), and this made the £11.95 charge worthwhile. They also have a system where they can notify Carnival for you to have the OBC applied, although I didn’t use that in the end.

Having set up a Fund & Share Account (no ongoing fees) I bought the required 100 shares. Got a bit confused as they list Carnival as a dollar price and I knew that I needed the U.K. version (which they don’t list), but then I noticed that the price was $1.66 a share so that was a launch price, not a trading price. I gave it a go and, when the bid offer came up, sure enough it was the U.K. version at just under £7 a share (they’ve dropped 40p since, but it matters not). Having pre-loaded my Fund & Share account with enough to cover the shares and fee, the purchase took seconds.

I’d heard that the specialist cruise TA that many of us use could arrange the addition of the additional OBC, so asked them to do it. They said (correctly) that the blurb states that Carnival only allow OBC to be applied to cruises once the balance has been paid, so they forwarded the request to Carnival for our July cruise only. This was duly rejected by Carnival as I had supplied the contract note from the share purchase, which doesn’t count apparently!

Many thanks to Brianl who told me where to find the Nominee Statement (as it’s not at all clear on the HL website) and having saved that as a file I decided to email Carnival directly and chance my arm on listing all our 5 future cruises (P&O and Cunard), especially as several posters had reported that they had received their OBC as much as a year in advance (well before the stated balance due date).

I sent it off Saturday morning and obviously didn’t expect a reply until yesterday (Monday), but many have said that they got a reply within an hour, so at close of play yesterday having not heard anything I assumed that I must have got something else wrong! Anyhow, this morning in rapid succession I receive 5 separate emails confirming that my shareholder OBC has been applied to ALL 5 future cruises. I have just worked out that the total shareholder OBC that I have received today equals exactly my total outlay for the shares, so they now owe me absolutely nothing and any future value in the shares, however little, is a bonus. We will of course continue to reap further rewards from any future new bookings.

Can I take this opportunity to thank everyone for their help and advice with this. A great example of how this forum is gold dust for those with a question about something.

It really is a no-brainer isn't it?

I considered getting them last year but was prevaricating, so missed out of £300 over two cruises. It matters not though, as our outlay of about £650 in January has already been returned with this current cruise and those booked for the future.

There is currently a member now on Iona (I think) who booked last minute and still got the OBC,

That may be us. We're currently on Arvia, having booked eight days before the sail date. The advisor on the phone said we couldn't have it as it was less than 22 days. A quick email did the trick, with the OBC being applied a couple of hours later.

This is technically correct but I have had the shareholder OBC approved for cruises with Princess booked at special rates (airline employee). Not tried with P&O as I've only booked public rates with them as they tend not to give us the same aggressive discounts as Princess.

You must have long cruises booked.
more than broke even though

1 x P&O at 7 nights (£60), 3 x P&O at 14 nights (£150 each) and 1 x 14 nighter with Cunard ($250 which equates to £200). Soon adds up 👍

Are you book a new cruise every week?

There seems to be an extra one every time you post 📯! I hope you enjoy every one of them 😊

🤣 If only! We remain rank amateurs compared to many on this forum who seem to spend as much time on holidays as they do at home! That being said there is some truth in what you say, as we have booked 2 cruises in the last 2 weeks, so now have 5 cruises in the next 13 months! We haven’t booked any beyond that, as we are hoping that the late deals will continue and we also need to see what the ‘post Covid’ P&O looks like before committing longer term.

Still a lot to look forward to though Vamps, as well as Florida (we had a few great holidays there). We will be Cunard virgins next year. Will be very interesting to compare.
