Bruges on a Sunday?

Recommended Posts

It'll be very difficult on a sunday If you want to buy furniture or stationery or a fridge-freezer, or withdraw your life-savings from a bank, or call out a plumber 😮 😄

But Bruges is very much open on a sunday for the sort of things that a visitor wants to see or do or eat or buy. 🙂

Even the hourly train from Blankenberge (nearest station to the ship & served by ships' shuttles) to Bruges runs at a few minutes before the hour, same as weekdays - altho' that's not true of the whole rail network.

Being a weekend, especially if the weather is fine, the city will be busier

JB 🙂

Good morning all.  I am planning to visit Bruges on a Sunday this October while on a cruise. Should I expect many shops/restaurants to be closed?

Thanks.

We've been to Bruges on a Sunday twice while on a cruise - once in April and once in October.

The weather was perfect both times and all restaurants and shops were open.

That won't be your issue though - Sundays were really crowded!  Sometimes so much so it was difficult to walk around, particularly the main square.  If you wanted to go to a restaurant you might have a wait.  Just be patient and keep that in mind!

Reading these comments, i am glad we will be there on a Monday. 😊 I found only one museum we might be interested in to be closed on Mondays (and another closed every day due to renovations). Plenty of them open.

Checking our itinerary further, our Sundays are sail away and a sea day. The only other weekend day is a Saturday in Alesund, and I don't expect it to be overrun with tourists..

Thanks. Fortunately, it looks like we'll be the only ship in port that day.

That’ll help, but Bruges gets crowded even without cruise passengers. It’s easy to get to from all over western Europe and hugely popular.
