US AMEX Offer for RCL

Recommended Posts

sheesh only took 4 days for this offer to finally show up.  🙂  !!!

now just for clarification.

1K spend to receive point's. Does the purchase have to be 1K? Or can I make multiple purchase and equal the 1K to get the point's?

reason being I already have my cruise next month and already purchased the DBP, so now I am looking at purchasing some additional stuff on other cruise's I have booked down the road.

Thanks!

In my experience it doesnt have to be a single $1000 purchase.  So long as it totals $1000.  If you later cancel something that gets you under that total later on amex will almost certainly claw the points back, so be aware.

Darn. Wish I had seen this helpful post sooner. I just paid off a cruise the other day and paid for some other stuff earlier today. But it's good until the end of July, so I'll make a final payment early, if necessary. The 20,000 points are worth at least $200, so definitely worth taking advantage of.

I have a final payment due in June so I will be glad to have it but not near as good as the AmEx Celebrity deal. I spent $1000 and got a $350 credit on my card.

I have a final payment due to Celebrity on May 29 and have been putting it off while I check daily for another Amex offer.  I haven’t received the offer for Royal, either.

if you bought add ons and can get same price cancel and rebook. I was in same boat last year when 25k offer was out, I was able to cancel drink package and rebook.

(Perhaps I am captain obvious here but you never know)

If I cancel a cabana at labadee that is now sold out, would I be able to rebook it with the AMEX or would that be pushing my luck since it shows sold out now?

I think that would be pushing your luck. I steer clear of cancelling "Sold Out" items for concern RCI may not return my cancelled product to the available inventory... or at least not return it to available inventory within a reasonable time frame. Cancel at 5pm, it may not return to inventory until Midnight, then someone else nabs it because you were asleep or forgot to refresh every 15 mins.

Interested to know though if others have cancelled a sold out activity and been able to rebook it immediately. I have no factual information, only speculation, on how it might work.

That is pretty much what I was thinking as well.

Does anyone know...

If I charge the 1K while on board in the casino! Will it be billed as Royal Caribbean or as name of the ship??
 asking because:
While on Harmony for NYE we charged dinner and it was billed on CC statement as "Harmony of the Seas", On the same CC we also booked a cruise and the deposit was billed to CC as Royal Caribbean.

Just curious what adding money to your seapass card for casino is billed as.

Unfortunately my cruise is next month and final payment was made in March and we had already booked our drink package and dining( for some great prices, so canceling them and rebooking does not make sense). So currently I do not have any additional spend with RCL for the year, as we are doing other cruise line for NYE.

Yes this is a great deal as you would need to spend 20K for 20K point or 4K in hotel and or airfare to get these points. So for me the 1K spend makes sense.

I'm pretty sure that won't work, as I think it will be similarly billed to the ship.

However, I do think that you can purchase $1000 worth of on board credit (in advance of the cruise), and then have it refunded in cash at the end of the cruise.

It will work and I have taken advantage of it in the past.  It shows on your cruise folio as

Club Royale but when your folio is cleared at the end of the cruise it all shows up as Royal Caribbean.  Sea below...

But you get much better value by transferring the points to various airline partners.

Absolutely! Only way I spend AMEX points. Just transferred some points to airline today to purchase business class tickets. Received a 6 cent value per point transferred, instead of booking thru AMEX or cashing in for only a 1 cent value.

Love AMEX offers for RCI and Celebrity. 🙂

What airline gives a 6x premium?

I search different airlines all the time. In this case, I was able to book Air Canada, returning from Rome to Atlanta, via Toronto.  Saver fare point pricing was very favorable over US$ for this flight. There are saver fares released for most flights, but you have to book early to get the lowest points fares.  Otherwise, the points cost usually goes up. But great saver fares are out there to be found.  I use Award Logic website to search for saver fares, then go to the airline to check the fare is available, transfer points over from AMEX or Chase, and book.

I normally get the best value on (ridiculously priced) business class flights. Anywhere from 3.5 to 10 cent value per point. But, most of the time, I can still get 3-4 cent value per point on economy too. Just have to search for it. 🙂

  • 1 month later...
  • 4 weeks later...

It's been a while since on CC.

To answer above post, I had two cards with Promo.

My upcoming cruise was around $1700 all in.

I put 1000 on one Amex for cruise

I put 700 on another Amex for cruise

I pre-paid gratuities on second Amex

I bought Soda and WIFI with second.

2 x 20,000 points posted at same time charge went from pending to posted. All was done except initial 500 on card one. I did both of those at same time.

Initial 500 was deposit. I think it was 200 refundable but I did 500.

Both soda and WIFI were done after deposit and before last payment I made.  Since promo ended 7/31 I paid in full prior to my required date.

Pre-paid was done at same time as 700 to second credit card and charge was around 900 for the combined charges. I paid second 500 at same time for card one and 900 to second card.

I am pretty sure I could cancel, which I will not, the Soda and Wifi on board and give OBC for rest of cruise, since not going back to Amex they would not claw back points.

I also received destination family of free soda for my son and Johnny Rockets for 4, although only two of us.  Cruise Privileges was not available because negotiated rate. Negotiated rate from 700 per person compared to almost 1600, all before taxes for a balcony. Extra 200 OBC for Cruise Privileges was not available but negotiated rate had a 100 OBC.
