Zaandam-OV on Deck 3- Thoughts?

I am looking for someone who can give me information about Oceanview cabins (EE) on Deck 3.  It is my understanding that there is a promenade deck that goes by the window, even though it is considered unobstructed.  Was this distracting? Was there a lot of foot traffic?  Thoughts from someone who has stayed in this type of cabin.

Thank you

It was around 6 years ago that I stayed in one, but I really liked it. I didn't find it distracting, and it was amazingly convenient to be able to just pop down the hall and be outside in a few steps. I spent a lot of time on the promenade. The curtain plus sort-of one-way window was sufficiently private for me.

Those cabins are fine but I would still prefer deck 2.  The cabins away from the promenade deck I think are deeper, although if you are a light sleeper you might be able to hear walking above you.  Depends on which possibility is more important but I would take either easily.

I love the Lower Promenade cabins and had them several times on ships now retired from the fleet. Looking forward to our Zaandam cruise around Newfoundland, staying on that deck in September.

Cabins like that are a rarity in the cruise industry. To me, they provide a classic ocean liner experience. You are relatively close to the sea. We always book one next to an exit for easy access to the wide deck for viewing, relaxing in a deck chair, and walking.

I sailed on the Zaandam, last month for 11 days starting April 22.  It was a repositioning cruise from Ft. Lauderdale to Montreal.  I was in an ocean-view cabin 3375 - midship - lower promenade, starboard side. It was in a great location, sort of.  The problem was that it is under the kitchen. So, I heard a lot of things rolling, things being dropped, etc. until about 1:15 at night, then again around 4:00 am.  While I tolerated it, a passenger - a few doors away, said he went up and complained.  (I am uncertain if it helped.)  Otherwise, I enjoyed the ship and cruise. The Captain was Ane Smit (He is excellent) and the Cruise Director is Daniel Edward (also excellent) until he leaves to return to England in June. I have sailed many times on the Zaandam and love it.

We just got off Zaandam— we had switched from Deck 3 to deck 2 ten days before sailing.

I peeked into a deck 3 on disembarkation day— and the OV’s on deck 3 are significantly smaller than deck 2.

It was just as easy to go up one deck to go outside and enjoy the extra space in the cabin.

Same opinion for me in Zaandam EE3414 Alaska Outside Passage (2018). The silver plating on the window seems quite good on the older ships. I was at the desk one day reading thru the paper-work when I caught motion out of the corner of my eye. Looking over, I saw a woman was on the Promenade and looking in my window. But actually not. She was using it as a mirror to comb and straighten up her hair.

I can let you know after next week.  I started a live thread for tomorrow's itinerary.

Would love to know if any of the Ee rooms on the Zaandam are ones that have doors added directly to promanade deck. That was fine on one of the ships we have been on but don’t remember which one

My first HAL cruise was on Zaandam in a Deck 3 OV which was terrific.  Steps away from the promenade--easy access to public areas on Decks 4 and 5.  The only things you are really separated from are the Lido and the Crow's Nest, but that's going to be the case with almost any OV.

My only advice would be consider the move from EE to D.  I sailed in 3365 which is immediately behind the staircase connecting decks 3, 4 and 5 and it made getting to a lot of the places I wanted to go very easy.

Zaandam doesn’t have those Lanai Cabins anymore. Just windows that look out over the promenade deck.

I don't believe the Zaandam was ever retro-fitted with Lanai cabins on the Lower Promenade. The previous Rotterdam had them, and the Volendam still does.

I will add my agreement to all the previous poster!   We have booked the Lower Prom Zaandam at the back of the ship under the MDR a number of times EE and HH  and been very pleased.  Also have an HH connecting cabin that was quiet.

We are nearing the end of our week on deck 3.  I wouldn't hesitate to book this cabin again.  The only thing that you must plan for is having only 1 outlet.  I bought a device that converts the one outlet to three and three USB ports. Makes it easy to recharge devices overnight while DH uses his CPAP.

I also think I'd be ok in an inside cabin.

in August of 2022, we stayed in an ocenview on Zaandam for 35 days to the Arctic Circle. We were in an oceanview about six cabins from the midshipd doors leading our to the Promanade deck. We loved it, especally that we could just scoot across to the other side of the ship easily.  (I did miss the Dutch Cafe and the gelato stand, which I hope will be installed on all the ships soon.)

We had an (E) oceanview on the Zaandam's Lower Promenade for Antarctica in 2020..  Absolutely loved it.  We were near the atrium doors and could be outside, either side, in less than a minute.  I don't remember any noise around us.

We have the same room booked for the Amazon next February.

Any of the D cabins are positioned nicely for easy access to elevators, stairs, and exits out to the promenade deck. The ones closest to the Atrium are quiet and offer quick access to the bars, casino, and stores, just two floors up. These also have nice large glass enclosed showers with rain shower heads, foot bars etc... Avoid those cabins right next to those promenade deck doorways as sometimes when those heavy doors slam because of the wind it can rattle the room walls.
