Rotterdam to Amsterdam

Recommended Posts

Hello all , will be disembarking in Rotterdam for 9 hours but really want to do Amsterdam - what would folks recommend as the fastest and hassle free way to accomplish this? I know train/tram is probably the way to go but any tips / tricks for this ?

Thank you

Indeed in general train is the fastest, if you take one of the fasttrains -sneltrein -(with a small surcharge). schedules on https://www.ns.nl/en

However please check your date as in summer often repairs take place and that might take extra time or diversions.

How do you come to that conclusion? There's about half a dozen direct fast trains every hour from Rotterdam to Amsterdam, and they get to Amsterdam faster than you can be driven there. There are good reasons why (as you yourself said) the train is the way to go.

Agree-- train is the way to go here.

Indeed train is the best, but again check the schedues before traveling to see if there are repairs going on.

Hi again , my thinking is that with a cab we get off ship and the taxi is there waiting for us (this would be prearranged). With the train have to walk to tram, wait for tram, ride tram, wait for train at centraal Rotterdam, ride train then arrive at centraal Amsterdam after a stop at Schipol. While the train is faster once on it, it’s this extra waiting around that adds time to trip. I would want to get to each stop atleast 5-10 mins early so not to have to rush to catch trains since we’ve never been to these cities

The above is my thought process , 2 adults 2 teen girls , 8.5 hour total window to disembark/embark. Also , this would be a Sunday if that changes the calculus at all

thank you for your feedback
