Tenders in North Sea

Recommended Posts

Any feedback on the tendered trips in the British Isles. Four ports on a British Isles cruise we are looking at early June,2024 are tendered ( Edinburgh, Ivergordon, Hebrides and Dublin). Are we looking at a potential for  really rough seas and how long are the tendered trips?

I can only speak for Dublin, but no big deal.  Tender trips generally seem to be about 15 minutes or so,.  The only issue we had, you actually port at Dun Laoghaire, is that the port required an escort for each tender and they mandated that tender operations were shutdown at 9 pm.  We overnighted so we had a choice of being back on the ship by 9 pm or spend the night on shore.  Other than that, tendering is tendering, always dependent on sea state.

We are on British Isles Splendor cruise now, and today’s stop in Dublin was cancelled due to sea being too rough for tenders.  Everyone disappointed since Dublin was a highlight.  Wish Regent would book a berth instead of tenders for such a popular port.  We have basically cruised in a square pattern today on our way to Holyhead, just to pass the time.

I think Dublin no longer permits cruise ships to dock...thus, the need for tendering.  Our tour guide there last summer mentioned that IIRC

Yes…they have pushed the cruise ships out of town.  First time there we were docked in Dublin for 2 days.  It was wonderful!  Last time there we tendered a bit aways.  Not nearly as nice.
Lots of store owners not happy because their traffic is lower. Port prefers cargo ships over cruise ships.

Bearclaws, we are doing a British isle cruise on regent in September. I would be very interested in your comments about the other ports and excursions that you visit.
