dwalters214 Posted June 16, 2023 #1 Share Posted June 16, 2023 My wife and I will be arriving in Cork, Ireland on Sept. 7 aboard the Regal Princess and are looking for ideas for small group tours that day. Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciate.
ssawjo Posted June 16, 2023 #2 Share Posted June 16, 2023 I am on the same cruise. I don't have any tour suggestions. We are just going to wing it, so to speak. We are not planning to visit Blarney Castle. I also suggest you post your inquiry on the cruise's roll call: Sept September 5, 2023 British Isles - Page 12 - Regal Princess Roll Calls - Cruise Critic Community Welcome to Cruise Critic, BTW. dwalters214 Posted June 16, 2023 Author #3 Share Posted June 16, 2023 I talked to my wife this morning, and I think we are going to do the same thing. None of the excursions on the cruise web site impress us, and they are quite pricy. On previous cruises, we just got off the ship and found local folks to show us around. It might be the best bet. I have found one or two local tours online, but they appear to be all booked up.
Ashland Posted June 16, 2023 #4 Share Posted June 16, 2023 Try Tours By Locals. We did a great tour with them with some from our rollcall.
Rare VMax1700 Posted June 17, 2023 #5 Share Posted June 17, 2023 We had a great conversation with some cruisers who were in Cork yesterday on another Regal Princess cruise. They were in Cork City having taken the train from Cobh. We met them in the English Market as they were sampling some Irish hot dog with Irish sausages and we were puchasing some real food 🤣 Even though it was raining at the time they said that they found the train and city easy to navigate. Rare mskaufman Posted June 17, 2023 #6 Share Posted June 17, 2023 We have a tour with Paddywagon going to Kinsale and Blarney. We think there is enough in Blarney without kissing the stone.
matamanoa Posted June 18, 2023 #7 Share Posted June 18, 2023 Taking the train from Cobh to Cork is exactly what we are planning to do in August. I have researched what there is to see and do in Cork and I've planned out a walking route which we can do on our own and still see some of the city's sights. Rare VMax1700 Posted June 18, 2023 #8 Share Posted June 18, 2023 There is also a Ho-Ho bus https://www.corkcitytours.com/tours/hop-on-hop-off-tickets/ but Cork is very walkable.
Cruisen Elf Posted June 19, 2023 #9 Share Posted June 19, 2023 We have done a coach tour with Butler Coach Tours: https://www.ecoach.ie/index.php We visited the shopping center near Blarney Castle, but you can go to Blarney Castle if you choose. It also included a tour of the area, and a visit to Kinsale. On our second visit we did a walking Titanic Trail tour combined with entrance to the Queenstown Story Heritage Center. It was called the Cobh Cultural Tour. Everything was within a few blocks of the port, and quite interesting. Here is that website: https://titanic.ie/
Rare VMax1700 Posted June 19, 2023 #10 Share Posted June 19, 2023 Something else in the Cobh area is a trip over to Spike Island. Departs from the centre of Cobh. https://www.spikeislandcork.ie/
cruiserking Posted June 21, 2023 #11 Share Posted June 21, 2023 Your ship will dock in Cobh which is a lovely little town to explore with many great shops, colorful houses, bars and restaurants. We ported here for two days last August aboard the Emerald Princess. On the first day we took a ship excursion up to Killarney. This a great town busting with character, many great shops to peruse, restaurants and bars. Have a great cruise. Jonathan
