Wondering what people's preference is for carrying water in port to stay hydrated. At home I love using my Hydroflask but wondering if using a water bladder in a backpack would be better. What are your thoughts?

For a developed area port walk, or a trip via bus to sites, a conventional bottle.  It can be refilled if need be from a public water fountain or purchased bottle water.

If it is a long trek, such as a hike in to see a water falls, Like I have done in  central or south america, I will use my camelback.  I am also likely carrying some of the other 10 essentials such as bug products, a small first aid kit rain poncho etc.

My camelback is 2L  If it is extraordinarily hot I might use it, then again wearing a backpack in such an environment in heat is not a positive.

I think it is more about how available is water for refills since 1 L on a hot dry day does not go far

C. Half-liter Nalgene bottles, to which we add lemonade or iced tea powders. In ports we buy more water to repeat. On the rare extended walk, we take more than one each. That we carry in a backpack but not a camelback!

Agree with pp. It really depends what we are doing. I'm not necessarily going to wear my hydration pack around town shopping or sightseeing, but I'll wear it if we're going hiking or somewhere that it will be hard to acquire water. Sometimes, if I need to carry other items like a jacket, sunscreen, etc I'll wear my hydration pack but not fill the bladder, and still just use a water bottle. I take it as my backpack/carry on.

I like my Hydroflask because it keeps the water cold forever and I just don’t like drinking warm water. Mine has a hook on the lid so it’s easy to carry. I use a 24 oz and that’s been plenty for most excursions.
