We are looking for nice beach close to the port in Norfolk Virginia.

Any recommendations not too far from the port ?

You're about 20 minutes drive to Virginia Beach which will have the most options for a visitor in terms of services/food/drink etc. Norfolk doesn't have any beaches within or adjacent the city-- it is a protected harbor that is inland.

The closest beach would be Ocean view beach in Norfolk, however not an ocean but the Chesapeake Bay.  It is a sandy beach, lifeguards, fishing pier but no bars, restaurants shops to visit from the beach that I can think of except for the fishing pier.  There are restaurants etc in Ocean view though

From the cruise terminal to the ocean beach in Virginia Beach is probably a 45 minute drive.  There you will find a long boardwalk with multiple bars/restaurants and souvenir stores.  It will require a car. There are multiple parking lots a block or two from the oceanfront.

It would take about the same time to get to Ocean View beach as to Virginia Beach - just under a half hour in each case.  While Ocean View is closer, much of the way would be on slow moving roads rather than the Interstate all the way to Virginia Beach.

And Virginia Beach has a lot more to offer a visitor in terms of things to do, eat, drink etc.

I want to avoid the city during the extreme hot weather. Beaches are the way to go. 🍺 ⛱️
