Getaway: Your top 5 dining choices..

Five? That's a lot! Please remember I'm just basing this off of what is on Getaway. When I say "very good" or "excellent," it's in comparison to the availability onboard, not in comparison to what's on land.

1. Haven Restaurant - hands down (why isn't it forks down) the best restaurant on the ship. And yes, I know it isn't available to everyone, but it's my absolute favorite.

2. Shanghai Noodle Bar - included in your fare. Yummy dim sum. Just order more than one serving as the servings are miniscule. Two dumplings or two tiny spring rolls...yea, not for this fat guy. The broth-based entrees are really good, especially Char Siu is just yum! I'm not a huge fan of the fried rice.

3. La Cucina - I just really enjoy Italian food. The bread is good. Ask for butter. I'm not fancy enough to truly appreciate oil with my bread. The lasagna is hit or miss...mostly miss. Alfredo and carbonara are very good. The pizza is good. The Gamberi Fra Diavolo (fancy for spicy shrimp) is probably the best entree there. The filet is good, but be prepared for very interesting tasting ravioli. It was fine for a one-off experience, but bleu cheese ravioli is not my thing!

4. Taste/Savor - if you go to the main dining rooms when the menu strikes your fancy, then it is good. I've had the best appetizer on any ship there. They were tiny little tostadas with beef and jalapenos. The chicken parm is good and the chicken cordon bleu is good, but kind of weird, especially since they cut it in half so you don't get the delight of seeing juice and cheese stream out of the concoction. The German Potato Salad served with the chicken cordon bleu is just bad and an odd choice to pair with that dish.

5. Moderno - all you can eat meats and salad bar, with sushi. How can one say no?

EDIT: I would absolutely not, ever pay a la carte price for any menu item, except the milkshake and mozzarella sticks at American Diner. I could go a lot further in my critique, but I'd be rude as I have a lot of unfavorable opinions about the a la carte menus/portions/quality.

Cagney's

La Cucina

Moderno

Taste/Savor

O'Sheehans

Disclaimer:  Those are the ranking of the places that I ate.  I did not dine at Shanghai, Ocean Blue, Le Bistro, Teppanyaki.

I only ate at the buffet when that was the only option and it was not good.

From my cruise in June, I would rank as follows:

1) Cagneys- great meal. Everything we ate was great, service was great also.

2) Moderno- Tried to get into the Teppanyaki, but couldn't so went to Moderno. Really enjoyed it, the meat is really good plus great salad bar.

3) Shangai Noodle Bar- Be prepared to wait for a table or get there early. Food was good. Small portions so order a couple of a few things.

4) Taste/Savor- Most meals were really good.

5) Buffet- I didn't eat any dinners there but breakfast and lunch were good.

I wasn't impressed with the food at O'Sheehans. Convenient if you want something quick or late night but nothing was that great.

I did not eat at Ocean Blue, Teppanyaki or le Bistro.

I don't think we went anywhere besides the buffet, Cagney's and O'Sheehans, and we liked all of them, especially Cagneys. The buffet had limitations that all buffets seem to suffer, but it was still very good most of the time. It was our go-to place. O'Sheehans had a limited menu, but the food was good, and available after hours. Cagneys was just great, both food and service. We considered Taste and Savor a few times, but the menu just didn't appeal to us all that much. We weren't interested in the other restaurants.

I cannot comment on the Haven restaurant as I was in a lowly balcony cabin, but I did spend 19 consecutive days onboard and here's what I thought.  Keep in mind this is just on the Getaway.

Cagney's

Shanghai Noodle Bar (maybe because it was so close to the Casino?)

LeBistro

Taste/Savor

Teppanyaki

Let's have your top 5 dining choices on the Getaway....Complimentary or otherwise...And go!

We have sailed on the Getaway 4 times and her sister the Breakaway 6 times (and their bigger cousins the Escape Bliss, Joy, Encore, and Prima many times).

In Order of Preference:

Le Bistro - Great food and service

Ocean Blue - Good food and service

Teppanyaki - #1 entertainment for us and good food

Moderno Churrascaria - Always love a meat fest and the salad bar is outstanding

La Cucina - Good Food and Good Service

Cagney's Steakhouse - O.K. Food and Marginal Service (fleetwide)

Wasabi/Raw Bar - Good Food and Good Service, more for lunch than dinner

Tropicana Room/Taste/Savor MDR - Good Food and O.K. Service

Shanghai Noodle Bar - Good food and good service, but competing against others for dinner

Garden Café Buffet - Good Food

O'Sheehan's Bar & Grill - Marginal Food and Good Service

American Diner - Marginal Food and Good Service

Haven Restaurant is always outstanding - we were in the Haven on the Breakaway recently.

I didn't really eat at enough restaurants to give a top five but here my opinion on what I did have:

- Taste/Savor/Tropicana - Food mostly pretty decent, service average. A couple of good dishes, a couple of bad ones. Mostly fine.

- Cagney's - Food and service good but maybe not memorable. Lobster Bisque would have been great if it had been hot, was still good luke warm. Loved garlic mushrooms, mashed potatoes not so much.

- Ocean Blue - Good service. Good food. Loved, loved, loved the chocolate dessert. Don't order the asparagus - three measly stalks with slightly congealed sauce hollandaise

- Shanghai's - Had Dim Sum which was excellent and fresh but it took really long to get the food considering all I ordered was some dim sum (like 40 minutes). Service not great, was friendly but very confused

- Garden Café - Pretty decent for a buffet. Had some tasty sandwiches  (didn't eat there a lot)

- O'Sheehans - In contrast to most others here I really liked the food. Service was average (once got my drink order twice). Did enjoy the Reuben sandwich quite a bit.

In general, I felt that the plainer the food, the better it was. Pasta and chicken dishes usually quite good. Beef often over-done and rather tough.

It's nice to see Shanghai's get some love.  I don't see it mentioned much here on CC, and I think it's great.  the lines are long when they first open, but luckily the casino and bar are there to pass the time :)

1. Moderno - hmmm, meat coma

2. Shanghai's

3. Garden Cafe - the Indian is pretty good and I love the made to order pasta station

4. O'Sheehans

5. MDR
