Bringing non-alcoholic can drinks onboard

Hi, new to cruising with Princess and a noob question. When cruising from Australia, can we bring canned soft drinks on board? If so, how many? I know most other lines allows 12 per passenger or cabin and the one I am after isn't sold onboard.

Cheers.

There is a Passage Contract from Australia & for a few Asian countries and there’s another Passage Contract from most other places which you can read here.

https://www.princess.com/legal/passage_contract/

In Australia there isn’t a limit stated on non-alcoholic drinks brought onboard unlike most other ports having these limitations (both are listed in Section 5).

  • Guests are also prohibited from bringing water, sodas and other non-alcoholic beverages on board that are packaged in bottles. A small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages (i.e., sparkling water, sodas, juice, milk) packaged in cans or cartons may be brought on board on embarkation day, only if carried on in Guests’ hand luggage (not in checked luggage). A small quantity is considered a maximum of 12 sealed, unopened cans/cartons of 12 ounces each or less per person.  Guests will be asked to discard open beverages in plastic containers prior to boarding.

In March 2025 we’re sailing Brisbane roundtrip around Australia & looking forward to some pre-cruise time for our first visit to your city. 😊

Thanks. I tried searching in the Aus Passage and couldn't find one. So I had to ask if anyone done so from Australia.

My assumption is either none or unlimited allowance.

You’re welcome…Based on the different Cruise Contract statements it’s unlimited when boarding in Aus although how policies are enforced can vary with shoreside personnel who are not Princess employees.

Thanks. Will risk 12 cans. If anyone else have successfully done this, do let me know.

I can't imagine it being more restrictive than the policy in the US so 12 cans per person shouldn't be an issue at all. Remember, you can always buy more at a port stop and bring them onboard with you there.

We always bring at least 6 one liter plastic bottles each onboard with us and have never been questioned. One time a few years back security questioned me the about cans in my suitcase, if it was beer and I told them to go ahead & check.

They waved me through.

Thanks. I didn't think plastic bottles were allowed.

They claim that plastic is not allowed since it easier to refill bottles with liquor but I've never been denied boarding with them.

On the last cruise in Fl. last March, my DH returned to the ship during a B2B with a suitcase filled only with 8 one liter bottles inside, so you can't say they didn't see them.

They never said a word when it was scanned. Nor did they make him go to the liquor check in desk.

  • 4 months later...

All good. At bag screening, I informed them where the drinks are. Open and showed them on request:

1 x 750ml Wine

10 x can soft drinks

1 x tetra pack water (just to test the theory of what is allowed)

They seemed most interested in ensuring the bottle of wine is indeed wine.
