Rare Solent Richard Posted August 2, 2023 #1 Share Posted August 2, 2023 Having called at Flåm on a recent cruise along the Norwegian Coast I've added a full description of how we organised ourselves to make the most of the day there. Here's the link to my cruise blog covering that visit to Flåm ....... https://solentrichardscruiseblog.com/2023/08/02/one-way-to-do-flam/ ***** ***** 1
hallasm Posted August 2, 2023 #2 Share Posted August 2, 2023 (edited) A very interesting and detailed review with nice pictures from your day in Flåm. I just want to add a little PS. The Norwegian government has introduced a 'zero emission zone' from 2026 in the UNESCO world heritage fjords and thus prohibits cruise ships from polluting the fjords So from 2026 onwards, only zero-emission cruise ships with electric propulsion are allowed to sail into the famous fjords such as Gairanger fjord or Flåm fjord! There aren't very many of them. It is currently being considered whether to let Bio-LNG ships sail in the fjords until 2030. Many small ships in the Norwegian fjords, including Hurtigruten and Havila, already have electric propulsion (hybrid ships) when they sail in the world heritage fjords.
