I am considering buying shipboard credit as the exchange rate is significantly better than if I purchased cash at home.  However I am wondering if I can use purchased shipboard credit in the casino at the slot machines? TIA

Do you mean HAL's exchange rate?  How would that work?

Yes, if you buy OBC (on board credit) it is refundable and can be used for anything - including the casino
