Manhattan Terminal Drop-Off

Anyone familiar with being dropped off and picked up by a family member at the terminal? Our son lives in PA and will be dropping us off and then picking us up upon our return. Is there a designated lane or location for drop-off passengers? And for passengers to be picked up?

Dropping off is easy. The motor vehicle entrance to the cruise terminal is at 55th St. and 12th Ave. Just follow the signs and you can be dropped off  right at the entrance door to your pier (either Pier 88 or Pier 90).

Pick up can be more problematic. Sometimes the police will not permit vehicles picking up passengers to enter the cruise terminal. I'd recommend leaving the terminal, crossing 12th Ave. and finding a spot there or on an intersecting side street such as West 48th St.

Also agree. Drop off at terminal. Pick up across the street, This will be the least complicated way to do it

It really is absurd that there is no organized (or even suggested) way for people to be picked up at MCT.  It is simply a free-for-all on connecting with your ride.  Best bet is to review the street map and agree with your ride where, and when, for you to be picked up.  Perhaps somewhere along the northbound side of 12th Avenue , or on one of the side streets - again east of 12th Avenue , working it out in advance with your ride so you can call him on your cell when you are at the agreed rendezvous point - because he will have to be lurking somewhere nearby waiting for your call;  obviously it will not be possible for him to sit parked at that convenient point until you get there.  It is impossible to predict what time you can get to what point.

 

Someone in a position of authority at MCT should get his butt kicked for not coming up with a practical approach.

Does that fiasco also include being picked up with the car service company that dropped us off. Asking because one of us will be using their mobility scooter. That would be treacherous crossing the street.

It doesn't matter that it's the same company that dropped you off at the start of your cruise. It's solely a matter of whether they're permitting pick ups in the terminal the morning you're disembarking . If your driver tells the police they are picking up someone with a mobility issue there's a chance the pick up will be allowed, but it's imperative that you tell the car or limo service about the mobility issue and then hope that they pass that information on to the driver.

If it turns out that you have to cross 12th Ave it wouldn't be as treacherous as you think. There's a traffic light and police directing traffic. If the police see someone using a mobility scooter they should hold up traffic to let them cross the avenue.

Thanks for your response njhorseman. It looks like the Crystal Serenity is the other ship at the Manhattan terminal when we return. Maybe that will make it a bit easier.

Crystal Serenity just carries about 1,000. So, if you are also on a small ship (under 2,500 pax) you may be OK.  But if you are on one of the 4,000 or so ships, all bets are off- it will be a dog’s breakfast.
