Tsunami74 Posted September 5, 2023 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2023 Does anyone recommend a shore excursion in Casablanca or Canary Islands (any of the 3 ports)?
Rare mj_holiday Posted September 6, 2023 #2 Share Posted September 6, 2023 On the Canary Islands (cannot remember which one) that is volcanic and mostly covered with lava a tour that includes both the volcano and the wineries was very interesting. cruisevirgin24 Posted September 6, 2023 #3 Share Posted September 6, 2023 (edited) I think you mean Lanzarote as it has amazing volcanic scenery in the South. At Timanfaya National Park you can take a bus around the volcanos, and eat in the restaurant where food is cooked over a live volcano. The local wine is produced from vines planted in holes in the ground, to protect them from the sun and wind. It is definitely worth seeing. newlondon Posted September 6, 2023 #4 Share Posted September 6, 2023 If you are an old time movie buff you can get luncheon reservations at Rick's Cafe in Casablanca. Obviously not a Regent shore excursion but we were denied by our cruise being canceled by Covid. Give my eye teeth for another try but not to be. wristband Posted September 6, 2023 #5 Share Posted September 6, 2023 I second Cruisevirgin's rec on Lanzarote. Timanfaya is a wonder, unique & unusual, so little else of value to see on Lanzarote. Take the four hour bus tour. Casablanca...is a charmless dump. Book an excursion that goes to Rabat. Rabat is far more interesting on so many levels - its the ancient capital & UNESCO World Heritage Site. The enormous Hassan mosque in Casablanca reminds me of a cheap Vegas casino. Except that self-indulgent edifice already has foundational cracks. Its not worth your time if they (doubtful) let you enter. If not, you will have to mill around outside, bored to tears, on the giant marble plaza.
Camillus112 Posted September 6, 2023 #6 Share Posted September 6, 2023 Many years ago I visited the Hassan Mosque in Casablanca. Its foundations sit on the sea, so, as seas rise over time due to climate change, they may now be affecting the structure. Apart from Rick's Café and the Hassan Mosque (which I found not particularly special, but not Las Vegas style), I will not recommend the "see the monkeys" tour...I regret that I did it. puppyluv1 Posted September 23, 2023 #7 Share Posted September 23, 2023 We’re just off Mariner and had a stop in Morocco. We did the Imperial Rabat tour and thought it was really good. Included an authentic Moroccan lunch which we really enjoyed. Agree that Casablanca is less than impressive.
