Coming in for cruise night before from IAH airport , Houston,  and trying to figure out best place to stay night before that is close to a stores and restaurant.

4 women in sixties seeking clean, comfortable and safe place. Would prefer to spend under $200  for each room.

I read several comments on board but still trying to figure out what is best for us. Thanks!

Galveston hotels are rather expensive.  You may want to consider staying near IAH, at a hotel with free airport shuttle and arranging transportation to the port the morning of your cruise.  We are fortunate to be able to drive to the port and stay in the Springhill Suites in Webster, Tx. which is a 30 minute drive to the port.   Hope you enjoy your cruise.

We stayed at the airport marriott on our last cruise.  Worked so well wife insisted on staying there again this time.  Room rates right at $200 plus taxes.  Best thing about this hotel is it's location. It's in the airport.  The airport tram stops every few minutes at each baggage claim and at the hotel.  No charge.  You don't have to fret getting a shuttle from/to airport.

Restaurant in hotel.  Expensive but you can get delivery.

Not a lot of shopping outside airport security but there is always uber.

Don't expect to find a hotel that will provide a free shuttle to the port since it's about an hour+ drive.  A number of shuttle companies will pick you up at the marriott and take you to the port for maybe $40 PP.  Some will pick you up at other hotels but some will charge you another $50 for the extra stop. Or, you can arrange a cruise line shuttle too which will be more expensive.  Will pick you up at the airport.

We liked the marriott since we didn't have to shuttle from the airport to a hotel and then shuttle from the hotel back to the airport.  use google to find shuttles.

Very safe since you never leave the airport/hotel.

Good hotel but you're looking at rates closer to $500 than the $200 they're looking for.

It’s all relative to them .
We live in Galveston .
Blocks from terminals .

We got a rate of about $245 per night which included taxes.  Doesn't hurt to check out for your dates.  Make sure to check if you are eligible for AARP or 'Senior' discount.

It's walkable to several restaurants.  We felt very safe walking in the area.

Depends upon the day of booking.

I looked at Friday night bookings.  Over $400,  then there's taxes, fees, etc.

Supply and demand affect pricing everywhere.  Our island sees more than 8.1 million visitors annually.  There are local events most weekends.  Prices are higher on weekends as they are in most tourist areas.

And, most cruises depart on weekends which is why I looked at Friday night pricing.

Thank you for your suggestions! I think we have decided to get closer to the port instead of staying at airport hotel. Tremont is definitely my type of hotel but because we will be there less than 12 hours we just need a nice comfortable bed and a clean room close to walking somewhere for dinner that night. We have to get two rooms so we each can have our own bed so price does come into play.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond .

Galveston is a beautiful island and a wonderfully friendly port to sail from.

Hope you have a great cruise 😊

I live on the island as well.  Can’t imagine staying at IAH Marriott for vaca when one can stay on the island with restaurants, nightlife and bars. Another option is Hotel Lucerne an new renovated sea wall motel with a hip vibe and great bar. 1950’s retro motel
