South American cruises in southern summer (northern winter) - mosquitos?

We're taking the Chilean Fjords etc. trip over Christmas which, of course, is summer down thar(!). We're wondering whether anyone who has taken any similar South American cruises has had any problems with mosquitos (onshore, obviously)? I'm a mosquito magnet, so if it is a problem, I'll want to pack some anti-mosquito clothing. Thanks in advance!

We were just on the Expedition cruise of the fjords in October and the only insects we noticed were bees.

No problems with insects on our SA cruise in March 2020–(just another kind of “bug” if you get my drift).

On the last WC we were on we circumnavigated South America including two weeks almost up the Amazon.  We had plenty of bug wipes with us but never needed them.  Same time of  year as your cruise.  Take a pack or two for peace of mind but don't worry.

If you are doing a pre/post to Iguassu Falls I have been warned there a loads of mosquitoes there!

We have done this twice, once early Dec and second time late Dec.  we didn’t encounter any mosquitoes.  We did Iguazu Falls early Jan and didn’t encounter mosquitoes on either the Argentina or Brazil side.

 

ETA:  I call myself the designated mosquito decoy.  I had a zillion bites on my arms when we were in Fiji.  DH had none.  Most unfair!

I forgot about our trip to Chile in Feb/Mar 2000. I don’t remember any bugs—and DH is a mosquito magnet. 🦟 We always bring bug juice but never seem to use it.

I have to second deec on the mosquitoes at Iguazú Falls. We were there in April and had to cover ourselves in spray head to toe. You might get lucky like Mich3554 being prepared isn't a bad idea.

No mosquitoes or bugs to speak of on same cruise February 2020.  There were some annoying flies along Petrohue Falls out of the Puerto Montt stop.  They landed on you but didn't bite.

We saw mosquitos, and fellow travelers were bitten, in the Amazon and at Iguazu Falls. We traveled Nov. 19 of this year. We had treated our clothing with Permethrin spray and used Deet wipes on exposed skin and were not bitten.

To keep the bities away, I smother myself, top-to-toe, in Vaseline Intensive Care  - Aloe Vera (the green bottle).

 

I find it really effective.
