Need after cruise itinerary help

We are going on a 7-night cruise from 

Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy Santorini, Greece Ephesus (Kusadasi), Turkey Mykonos, Greece Naples / Capri, Italy Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy 

we are looking to do some sightseeing afterwards in Rome and elsewhere- does anyone have an itinerary they used/followed. We don’t mind doing some traveling via train. My kids will be 17, 15, 11.

How long can you stay in Italy after the cruise?

We spent a few days in Rome then took the train to Venice.  Stayed there for a couple of days then headed to Switzerland (but of course you could return to Rome).

 

We live in the Uk, so made our way via Milan to Lugano to get the scenic Swiss train -  the Bernini Express, through the Alps to Chur, then back to regular trains to Paris and London.  We broke the journey with overnight, or a couple of days in the cities we travelled through.

After our cruise in July we spent 2 nights in Venice wish we could have been there longer but I could only be gone from work a certain amount of time and then what was to be 3 days in Rome but due to an airport strike our flight was cancelled so got a few extra days.
