Liberty of the Seas door key/card question

I know there have been lots of questions whether to punch a hole in sea pass card or put in pouch.  My question is how does the sea card open the doors on Liberty.   Does it slide in the opener or just need put up against it ?  I would prefer to not have to remove it from the pouch to open the door.  I have heard that Liberty door are different.  I thought I saw a picture of someones card and it had arrows showing which made me think it slid in.  Thank you in advance.

They are the older slide in.  So you can punch a whole in it without worrying about the RFID.

Make sure it is not punched on the side with the black solid strip on the back of the card and I don't have it done on the side which shows the arrows to insert to get into my room.  I have had mine punched incorrectly.  Bartenders could not use it.  They did record my room # manually before I had it fixed, but it is easier for them to be able to slide it.

 

Basically the side opposite your name, centered on the side or bottom corner.  At least on my cards.

While the door may be fine, if you're inclined to head to the casino, you may have problems with the machines as they're becoming almost exclusively touch/RFID for the CR program.

Mine worked fine for door, purchases and casino in September on Jewel, but they could have changed things since then or for Liberty as I have not been on her for a few years.

Not on Liberty, they are not.  We were just on her, and the casino matches the card system used on the whole ship.

Go to Guest Services and ask them to punch a hole.  On the Freedom this past week there was an employee with a big hole-punching machine, and a sizeable line of people awaiting same when I got there.  

Why Royal doesn't have the cards already pre-punched, like Carnival does, is a mystery.

pre punched card stock is significantly more expensive

I have already read that the hole punches were allowed on Liberty but was really just trying to figure out how the key works in/on the door.  I did get one answer that the key does need to go in the door so I will not plan on using the pouches.  I do really appreciate the answers.  Thank you all for your replies.

That's my concern, too- so I have pouch that I carry just in case.

Lodge casino in Colorado uses magnetic strips and punches holes in the corner.  Works fine in machines (like ship doors and non-rfid ship casino) but their bonus cash machines inhale the whole card and you have to take it off the clip.  Never had that problem on a cruise ship. 

 

We use lanyards, and the pouch for an RFID card tends to get caught on things.

I used one on my last cruise (Mariner) with some success.  Had to offset the gripper so the card could slide through readers (not the door readers, those were fine, but the point of sale ones).

 

I also had a couple times where the card fell out.  Once I found it, once I had to get it replaced at GS.
