Thank you for responding.  We're considering the Pont du Gard from Avignon, but it seems the travel time is 2 1/2 hours with only one hour at the site.  The other is from Arles:  the Carrieres de Lumieres and then on to St. Remy.  Hope we can get your opinions of both!

I have done both, and both are A-list recommendations!  Check which artist will be featured at the Carrières when you visit, that might help you decide.  One hour at Pont du Gard is enough to experience the awe, but not to explore it from several angles and also visit the museum.  Due to miscommunication we missed our ship excursion to PdG, so we got a rental car at the end of the cruise and went on our own which allowed a little more time there.  We spent three hours there and still felt we had shortchanged the museum.

Carrières de Lumières is right outside the village of Les Baux, which is also worth a visit [and more interesting than St. Remy, IMHO].
