There are SO MANY  other examples of unacceptable , ( and dangerous ) , behavior from children , and adults , and the cheerleaders think you NEVER have a right to comment or complain .

Ridiculous

Cheers

This thread starting out because of kid's splashing in a pool they are allowed it, going into Playmakers that they are allowed in, and attending karaoke that was intended for adults.  Not exactly dangerous behaviors.

I've never had kids physically disrupt my ability to enjoy a cruise, I can say I have had plenty of intoxicated adults impact my ability to enjoy a cruise.

When are we going to see the pics of the adult areas overwhelmed by kids.

If I would of noticed it when we were on Icon a few weeks ago I would of taken pics  but I never witnessed it.

While cruising on Icon I remember people complaining (that were not cruising Icon) about Cloud 17 no longer being the adult area.  We laid out at Cloud 17 several times and the most kids I saw in one day was 5!  There is nothing at Cloud 17 to attract them.

There are a lot of areas that will attract kids that are easy for adults to avoid.

I wonder when a kid will start a thread on CC complaining about adults hanging out around the kids areas. 🤔

Why on earth do you think the parents deserve a break on a cruise? So someone else has to watch them? Hire a nanny if you want to be lazy and not watch your kids. This isnt a babysitting cruise

I was not expecting someone else to watch them.  I didn't mention anything about babysitting other people's kids.  It wouldn't hurt to have a little patience with them so long as they are not harming you.

I do think it possible for kids to  have more freedom on cruises since there isn't a lot of harm they could come to... assuming they're old enough to have some common sense.  I agree diving into a hot tub is bad form at any age.

Our daughters were like 13 and 11 when we started cruising and we were able to let them have a certain amount of freedom on cruises that might not have been available on other types of vacations.  We could assume that most people were not cruising or working on a cruise ship to try to harm other people's kids like might be more likely on land.  Many cruises have lots of activities for young people and are great vacations for families, but cause the parents can take some time away from watching the kids.

I'd think, unless the child is diving into the hot tub you're in, it's really not your concern what they are doing.  If you are in the tub and they are doing something dangerous or you just don't like getting splashed,  you could ask them to stop and, most kids, would likely stop or leave.

All that said, going on a ship like Icon and expecting it to be adult-centric is kind of ill-advised.   I think they want to provide a more "Disney" type experience.  Royal, obviously, puts all that stuff on ships to attract young families.  If we want to get away from kids we go on a different kind of cruise (there are plenty of those).

I don't think anyone responsible here is going to be posting random pictures of other peoples kids, but just go look for videos on youtube over the coming months and you'll get a sense of the amount of kids. Let's put it this way, even the entertainers on board - comedy staff, shows, dueling pianos, cruise director, all commented in some form or another how many kids appear to be onboard the ship. It was even noticeable to them in evening entertainment venues.

Consider that 10, 11, or 12 year olds (that are responsible) doesn't need to have a parent following them around all day. They meet up with friends and build some maturity and independency in a relatively safe environment during the day. What seems to be coming through with this thread is a lot of sour grapes from couples without kids who booked Icon. Let me be clear YOU WILL BE SURROUNDED BY KIDS - lots of them, if you don't like that cancel your cruise. For example, all the jacuzzi's were PACKED with kids. They thought nothing of piling into a Jacuzzi (and using it as a pool) that already had a few adults relaxing in it. Yes you can go hang out in the Hideway, but you best like very loud thumping music all day long. It's more like South Beach, than a Hideaway. Or go sit in the Casino. Lol.

I'm a parent and a grandparent and I get the most joy when surrounded by my family.  I also, very much, enjoy other families enjoying each other as well.  Although, I'm not crazy.  We have a week booked on Icon with our kids and grandkids and the week after, without them, on Celebrity Beyond where we can board nearby.  Sometimes so much joy can be exhausting 😉

I was on Icon.  No need guessing what it will be like in the coming months.  I experienced it.

Do you know how easy it is to blur kids faces in pics?  Not sure about bluring faces in YouTube videos.  Are you responsible if you post kids in videos but not pics?

There were a lot of kids.  How many of the entertainers you mentioned commented kids were at bars.   I was not surprised to see them at the evening entertainment.   They seemed to enjoy the Wizard Of Oz!

Where did you  experience kids in an adult area on Icon?  How bad did it bother you.

I wouldn't post either. I'm saying if you want to get a sense of crowd levels, look at youtube videos that people post of Icon over the coming months.

Dueling Piano's, MO5AIC, Earl Turner, Comedian's, Cruise Director Mike, all commented on the volume of kids cruising on Icon.

We travel as a family, so kids don't bother me - it's a family cruise. It's the couples traveling on this forum that seem upset by it.

We just yelled at these kids because they kicked water in our drinks at the bar. About 7 people yelled at them and their parents.

I’m not a parent, but I see splashing water as a pain, and far from dangerous. Lack of washing your hands after using the bathroom is much worse, and we see far more adults do that than kids. And it has resulted in people getting sick.

In terms of the same kind of inconvenience that the kids do, we know about the chair hogs and the rude elevators…..  it’s not a kid problem, it’s people.

Given the options, why are people not just moving cruise lines?  That’s the easy button.

Everyone's money is good. It should be a cruise for all. Very shortsighted to exclude a high spending demographic who may cruise multiple times a year IMO.

But I could make that same argument about cruises that are adult only, like the new Virgin ship. It sounds amazing, but no kids allowed. So my family sails on ships where kids are welcome instead.

My earlier post saying how all you mentioned was negatives was completely reversed in this post and I apologize if I was too judgemental. My bad.

You have reasonable expectations. You are correct, children in the right circumstances need to exercise some freedom with responsibilities.

I am older now but when some of the younger cruisers show poor judgement and knock on my door at 11pm, I go back to sleep. Heck, I have had drunken adults banging on my door to let them in as they try their room SeaPass in multiple doors going down the hall. In many cases, they had the right room on the wrong deck (I went out and talked to the 'gentleman'. After a short discussion, I escorted him to his room).  Sometimes, all we need is a sheep dog. I herded him into his corral.

You are correct. Royal is a family cruise. I do not excuse irresponsible parenting but I can accept children trying to express a little freedom.

Times change and each generation laments how the next generation "has no respect."

Again, my apologies for any judgement on my previous responses.

No apologies necessary.  I love these discussions!

Seriously?  Have you heard of Adventure Ocean?  That's exactly what it is: babysitting on a cruise so both kids and parents can enjoy.  All built in to the price.

Adventure Ocean is a disaster on Icon. During the day it's empty (kids are in the pools, jacuzzis and slides), at night they are overwhelmed with kids so much so, that many families felt it wasn't worth it and took their kids to many of the night time venues - which of course didn't sit well with many of the non-kid couples that were out for an adult evening only to be surrounded by kids in the late night hours.

That is the false narrative that you are creating from the OP's Valid concerns about unruly/unsupervised children . Children in general do not bother me on cruises , however when I watch the pathetic actions of parents who think they can just get drunk and let their children go wild , I find it bothersomefor many reasons . Again ...Valid
