Icon of the Seas - The New Disney Cruise Line

Recommended Posts

So. Many. Kids.
and not just in kids areas.
The only swim-up bar? Full of kids splashing pool water in your drink.

Karaoke Bar on adult night? Full of kids listening and singing.

Playmakers bar? More like kids arcade.

running around screaming unchecked. Not a parent in site. Was on the Allure before this, much better than Icon…

How are they going to 'fix' it?

Declare some places adult only? Disney does it.

Other areas will be for all and kids are kids. This ship is created for families.

We don't have kids, and have no plans to sail on Icons unless she or sisters come to Bayonne, NJ and in times when schools in surrounding states are in session.

There are plenty of other ships and RCI is building more Oasis(es)

Royal has the hideaway dedicated for adults. Every review I have seen about Disney adult pool area being small and more of an afterthought.

Don't see Royal limiting any more space for adults only. There has been no indication that Icon is a cruise for adults. As you pointed out, the cruise ship is a Disney alternative.

Welcome to Cruise Critic.

Seems to be a reoccurring theme:

First post:

Only negative opinions on non-adults on cruises that are family oriented.

If one truly has been on Royal Cruises in the past twenty years, it is not an adult only cruise.

Families are welcome.

Maybe an adult only cruise line is best for you.

Welcome to Cruise Critic! I'm not surprised. It is designed for families.....

Especially on school vacation.  Very poor timing for the OP.  They really did'nt do their homework.

Over on the Disney cruises the past two weeks they probably had 12 year olds driving the ship!!

Write them a letter. I’m sure they’ll be right on it  🤡

Why? I do not care. I am an emptynester with no plans to sail on Icon anytime soon.

People who are interested though can do this or pick another Royal ship.

No need. Tons of other Royal ships.

So, in so many words, no need to fix anything.

Just pick another Royal cruise that does not cater to families at a time of the year that most children are in school.

This topic is moot.

Right?

RC does it, too.

They don’t enforce it well. Allure last weekend kids filling hot tubs, solarium pool, solarium, etc.

Couldn’t pay me to do Icon or Star with the kid focus.

Well, I sail on Anthem during Thanksgiving every year. Almost 1400 kids on board. I do not see them is Solarium. So something can be done about adult places. 😉

But of course in other places there will be kids.

I went on Icon as a Solo adult and thought it was fine and comparble number of kids to Oasis class.  I actually think they did a damn good job of wrangling most of the kids in the surf side area.  By putting the splash bad in surfside helps the pool deck have less ankle biters.  That area was PACKED with kids, I liked the lemon post drinks though so I would venture in there.

Pity the cruisers on the Odyssey of the Seas that do not have an enclosed pool like the Anthem. All of the pools are outdoor except for the Solarium. There are instances where the Solarium has been open to all during colder cruise days without previous notice.

Please take notice of articles in Cruisehive@com about adult areas only being used by families on no notice.

Royal doesn't enforce anything. They're so afraid of offending these useless parents who do NOTHING to supervise the kids. That's one of the reasons I've stopped sailing Royal even though I'm Diamond and miss my free drinks.

Well... this is unfortunate. Kids will need to wait for day or two.

I hope Solarium will not be opened. Especially because of specific shape of cascading pools.

On "my" Thanksgivings it should be easier (gets warm faster)... On Christmas it will be tougher. I remember times when ships sailing out of NJ did not have covered pools at all.

Understood. You are not sailing Royal anymore.

Why do you continue to post?

You mention your status.

If you are not sailing anymore on Royal, "Let It Go" (Frozen, 2013).

"Useless parents", you are so superior to them, are you a parent?

Being a parent is hard work, much unappreciated, yet we try so hard.

Are we perfect, NO.

We tried our best to create a new generation to carry on.

I have patience for every little one that crosses my path on a busy pool deck on a cruise. Their parents are trying to follow them and keep them safe.

Appreciate the moment of joy instead of wanting to cast them astride.

"Dust in the Wind", (Kansas, 1977)
