Dining on the Prima

Recommended Posts

Itinerary is the reason we booked Prima:  Iceland and the Norwegian fjords, as well as brief stops in Brugge and Amsterdam.  One member of our party does not, shall we say, have a great deal of patience.  Do either of the main dining rooms take reservations?  Is there a sample of their menu available?

As far as entertainment goes, is it a problem for two of us to wait in line for seats and notify him when to join us?

Any other recommendations?

Thanks

We sailed that itinerary on the Prima last summer. We never did make reservations in the MDR, but were told you could.

If you go earlyish when it opens you probably won't have to wait at all for the MDR. Prima has lots of small venues and people tend to crowd more in the food court, the Local, or the buffet. You can make reservations on most ships for the MDR - I've not heard Prima is different.

The menus rotate now, so you never know what will be available, aside from a small number of set items.

On two Prima cruises last year, we had to wait only once for more than 2 minutes to get seated at Hudson's.  That was the last night On board on one cruise, there were 5 of us, and all they did was give us a beeper while we had a pre-dinner cocktail about 100 feet away in the Metropolitan Bar.  If you really want to dine early then reservations may be an idea, but for a group like us who never wanted dinner before 7 it was never an issue.

Don't bother with reservations, don't hold a place in line, and tell Mr/Ms PITA to deal with it, or do their own thing.

if youre in a haven or "suite" just have the concierge take care of it for you. as for entertainment, they usually have a section specifically designated for guests in a suite. if not, after 25 cruises, ive never had a problem getting a seat in the theater, especially when there are usually 2 shows per night, and on rare occasions, only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table in the mdr.

realistically, with the number of passengers on the prima, your friend needs to suck it up show some patience and wait in line with everyone else. if he/she doesnt have the patience to stand in line, point out that they have to wait somewhere, may as well  be with your group. tell him to get a drink before getting in line

Did this sailing last year. We only dined in the main dining room for lunch when boarded. That proved to be such a smart decision.  The next night we had a table of 8 at Hudsons and it was a three hour dinner.  After that, we stuck with Indulge (couldn't get enough), the Local, specialties, or the buffet.  The Local on the Prima was the best one I've experienced.
