Disembarkation Transfer???

Just a quick question about whether you can book an airport transfer once on board.

Our situaiton - we are getting off a Crystal cruise and right on board Silversea.  Thus we had no use for Silversea's Door to Door.  We asked our travel agent if we could just get the transfer from our Silversea cruise to the airport, and she was told no - it's Door to Door or you are on your own.  This seems to be ridiculous and am wondering if anyone has booked the transfer once on board.

If it matters, this cruise ends in Civitavecchia and we need to transfer to Fiumicino Airport (Rome).  Right now we have a private transer as our backup but can always cancel if the Silversea transfer is easier.

thank you

Last year we disembarked in Civitavecchia and we had taken air and transfers out. However we were able to book the transfer FCO on board and it was cheaper than a private transfer.

Though the year before getting off in Venice SS wanted $US240 each to the airport and a private transfer was 60 Euro.

So not sure if it was just the Shore Concierge desk was having a bad day in Venice or a good day in Rome

Surprising that SS would be less expensive but a good plan would be to book a private transfer and then just check the SS rate once onboard.  Not sure why SS would be any easier except perhaps you could pay with OBC?

"Usually" SS has two types of airport transfers you can book on board and which are listed on the disembarkation form you receive a few days before the end of the cruise:

a) a (big) bus transfer to the airport, usually more expensive than a local taxi (which are sometimes hard to get and I would not bet on in Italy...),

b) a private car at a ridiculous price.

If you can book (and if needed also can cancel with 48h or so notice) your own private transfer, you can decide later on board as Gourmet Girl suggested.

Your TA should also be able to check if SS does offer the bus transfer.
