We arrived at Haneda airport Mar 17, 2024 for our Oceania pre-stay &  Riviera cruise. Very long line for passport control with each person completing a form; then long line for customs declarations (1 per family)

After clearing customs we had to find Ocenia/Regent Rep. They were standing behind most of the others waiting for guest.

We were escorted to bus for the hotel.  When we arrived at the hotel we had to get our luggage and carry it inside to check in desk. After we  checked in we are given an envelope with "letter" from Oceania that Oceania desk would be open 9-1 the following day. We were then directed to the elevator bank to get to our rooms. I was surprised that Oceania did not have a rep on the bus or waiting at the hotel. Also Oceania did not do anything to get luggage from bus to our rooms. It was interesting to talk with people on the Regents cruise that arrived on March 17. The Regent guest had luggage taken from their bus and delivered to their rooms. This must be another example of reduced services provided by Oceania.

It could be the difference between a premium line and luxury line.

I don’t think it’s “reduced services,” instead Regent (generally, IMO) provides a better experience than Oceania. However, you pay for that.
I’ve sailed on Regent twice and Oceania thrice IIRC. I used to like that O provided an unbundled experience and cruisers could select which amenities had value to them, and only “pay for what you need”. No longer.
Anyway, Regent is positioned as a luxury line, although if you spend time on the R forum, you’ll find some will disagree. Oceania is positioned as a premium line.

I’m not super happy with either cruiseline and am thinking about other options starting in a few years……

But as I read the negative comments on other cruise line forums, I'm beginning to think it's a choice for frying pan or fire.  Things have changed since the pandemic,  and I find I no longer have the perfect line of previous years.  Yet, I can't find one that is even close to my pre-pandemic experience in all areas.  It's become a choice of what I am willing to put up with when I find itineraries I like.

I think you are on point.  We changed for a few cruise Rengent, then Silversea.  Regent was good, but wanted something different.  Silversea after 2 cruises just didn't fit, plus they over sell the luxury, but can't deliver the product.  We've just booked with Oceania, I enjoy the ship and think they have the best Suites at sea.  We enjoy the ship more than where we go........
