Rare Shippy Posted April 10 #1 Share Posted April 10 Seems like there are a great number of people on this cruise that got some sort of casino deal. Unlike Princess where everything is automated, Holland I far from that. I knew that I had a lot of casino cash coming but when I put my card in a machine, nothing came up. That would have been automatic on Princess which were used to. I asked the casino host and she said she has to input it. She was carrying several sheets of paper which looked like there were hundreds of names. Apparently if you do not have her do that, you will not get your money. I had booked this cruise under a casino offer I got under my name. Awhile later, I thought that just for the heck of it, I would have her check under my husbands name. She said he had $600. coming and she would input that. If I had not haved her check, he never would have known about that ! 2
kelliebiz Posted April 10 #2 Share Posted April 10 Very interesting! I assume this cash is for those who have already used the casino? I don’t think I have ever gambled on a HAL ship. Enjoy your new found play money!
kirkc Posted April 10 #3 Share Posted April 10 Keep in mind that HAL only leases out the space to a casino operator. It’s not theirs so the policies are the gaming company’s.

It all depends whether the hosts have enough time to get the free play loaded. Personally I like to use my free play on the tables so I get free play chips at the cage. Rare Mary229 Posted April 10 #7 Share Posted April 10 They are supposed to have it loaded to your card they just can’t seem to have it done - HAL’s IT department strikes again. Yes, they are supposed to be under the same IT and Casino operations but it does not seem that way.

The casino personnel are supposed to get it loaded onto your account.
Moriah Posted April 10 #9 Share Posted April 10 i have always had to go to the Casino, tell them what offer I had, and have them look me up on a list. Then they add the Casino Free Play to my card. I've never had a problem with that. I just go as soon as the casino opens once we are at sea. I've never had it show up on my card "automatically." YourWorldWithBill Posted April 10 #10 Share Posted April 10 In the past it was possible to buy an AARP gift card and use that to purchase chips before the cruise, which you could then pick up at the casino. I believe that was the only way to use the AARP gift card for chips. The option of purchasing chips before the cruise has gone away. Have others used that (or any) gift card to purchase chips? Is there any problem doing that? Is it necessary to apply the card for onboard credit first? Thanks.
singleflyer Posted April 10 #11 Share Posted April 10 I would also recommend you cash out most of your money at least two days before the end of the sailing. I spoke to a passenger that didn't do that on a previous cruise; only to have the casino not open the final night and her money was "stuck" in the casino. She had to fill out a bunch of paperwork online and is still waiting 6 months later to get a check.

They ALWAYS make announcements of the absolute deadline when you must cash in your chips or whatever it is the slot players have to do to redeem their cash. No excuse for missing the announced cutoff time. Edited April 11 by AV8rix

I don't know the full story; what she said is that the casino was unexpectedly closed on the last night of the cruise (maybe an IT problem or a delay leaving the port?). Definitely could have been on her -- don't know the full story.

Further to my earlier comment if HAL's IT dept was involved with the casino the casino would be out of business! 2
