I'm going to recommend these places for our Jewel saying in a little over 2 weeks. Of course, you will get the attribution. Thanks

I think I might make up our own trivia questions to help my dad feel successful. Questions will be based on old time rock and roll and will be along the lines of

“what is Elvis’ last name?” and “when the Everly Brothers came to Bristol...

A better question would be, "What was the last name of the Everly Brothers?" 😁

Sorry for being late to the party (don't know how I missed this thread, since I love your trip reports...and your dad...since he reminds me so much of myself. Both of us are grumpy,  hate having our hair messed up...and love beer.)

Great minds...

I’d like to preorder some huckleberry truffles, please.

So...you're a huckleberry hound?

Sorry if this was is way before your time and it went over your head. Sometimes I forget that not everyone is as old as I am...

The Jewel is docked at Ward Cove for a day in Ketchikan. When I was checking in on the webcam earlier today it was dotted with raindrops.

Ketchikan is the last port before disembarkation for many passengers who are doing a B2B2B from Japan to Seward to Vancouver.

Tomorrow the Jewel heads south through the Inside Passage before arriving at the Port of Vancouver on Monday.

Hey, you and me must be of an age. I knew exactly what you meant. Clarabelle ring any bells. Mary Lou

Hannah Barbera, right?

@schmoopie17 the comedians NCL hire through Levity aren’t that great.

You, on the other hand, are hilarious.  The things you come up with crack me up!

Ditto that compliment.

Thank you for reading!

You will love being on the Jewel from Seward to Vancouver in August. Are you going to spend time in Vancouver after the cruise?

We board again the day you disembark.

We are not unfortunately although I really pushed for us to stay a couple of days.  My wife doesn’t want to be gone longer than the 9 days bc of our sweet 11 year old dog that has separation anxiety when she’s gone.

I cruised on Jade which is Jewel’s sister ship back in 2019 on Jam Cruise 17 so I already know my way around the ship which is convenient!

Favourite Locally-Owned Businesses in Alaska

Ketchikan

Fish Creek Company (this is a store, not a restaurant) on Creek Street. This is where to buy the wooden jigsaw puzzles.

https://fishcreekalaska.com

Sam McGee’s

https://sammcgeesalaska.com

Asylum Bar

https://www.theasylumbar.com

Jellyfish Donuts

https://www.instagram.com/jellyfishdonutss/?hl=en

Tongass Trading Company (go upstairs!)

https://www.tongasstrading.com

I also like the Salvation Army thrift shop in Ketchikan

305 Stedman Street

Juneau

Caribou Crossings

https://www.cariboucrossings.com

If you have been to Aruba or Bonaire and purchased the Harper and Ari bath salts and body scrubs and (like me) were so sad when the products ran out, you can buy them at Caribou Crossings!

My number one favourite is the little wooden hut in Juneau that sells glacier silt soap.

https://glaciersmoothie.com/products

IMG_3982.thumb.png.5b7ca0174a6afeba679e8a0e42ee285f.png

A bar of soap costs the same amount as the sandwich I bought at LAX on the way home from New Orleans. It’s vacation spending so buy the soap and don’t even look at your credit card bill. Even if you don’t like soap (who doesn’t like soap???) check out their website for the names of their products. Please note that I have never purchased one of their items with the word “fluff” in it.

They sell ducks too.

The Alaskan Fudge Company is a must. Trust me.

https://alaskanfudge.com

If you are doing whale watching on your Alaskan cruise, my number one recommendation is Jayleen’s Alaska for a top-notch experience.

https://jayleensalaska.com

Skagway

I mentioned in an earlier post that I love Klondike Brewing Company

https://www.klondikebeer.com/beer

I also enjoy the gift shops at the White Pass and Yukon Railroad and the Red Onion Saloon.

I don’t think I’ve bought many items in Skagway. I did buy a little container of Devil’s Club Salve but it was stinky and useless.

Icy Strait Point

Lil’ Gen’s Donuts

The Cannery Museum and Shops (I like the shops that face the ocean because they display glass items on the windowsills and the light is beautiful for photography.)

Seward

Alaska Sea Life Center

https://www.alaskasealife.org

If you aren’t doing a boat trip into Kenai Fjord or a hike to Exit Glacier or a run up Mount Marathon go to the Alaska Sea Life Center. The gift shop supports local artists, there is a cafe, it is a humane facility based on rescue work and is stop number #10 on the free Seward Shuttle.

Want a treat in Seward?

Sweet Darlings is the place for you!

For handmade art and locally made products, don’t miss Starbird Studio. If you are walking from the Alaska Sea Life Center back to the ship it is on the right hand side of the street.

If you have favourite shops, cafes, breweries and businesses in Alaska please feel free to add them.

We will check out Seward Brewing Company! Thank you!

This is now a Post-It Note on my calendar.

SoHo coho on Creek Street. My family loves the humor of Ray Trolls art  on shirts, etc. hoping to meet him this week when we’re with our favorite local guide, Cruin.

How was your travel day? Are you all cozy in your hotel room on this drizzly grey evening?

well, bummer.wonder if that will make our troll shirts collector items? Travel day interesting starting with Detroit airport where cops tasered a guy trying to slit his own throat near us. Then R falling in the plane aisle, no damage. Now in beautiful 1-bedroom suite in Sutton Place. Going to borrow hotel wheelchair for falling-down boy to tour Granville, rain or shine.

Thank you for coming along on this adventure.

We are booked on the Jewel Christmas cruise too. I’m not sure I can convince my dad to get on an airplane though…

It would be such a pleasure to meet you and Dad! I get it though, my husband doesn’t fly so we drive down to the ports. Much easier from the East Coast than Vancouver.

Although one summer the stars aligned and we were able to take a month long trip across the country to Seattle. From there we cruised on the Pearl to Alaska. A trip the kids and us will never forget!

Wishing you both very Happy Birthdays during the trip! I love the Sesame Street wrapping paper!

When do you and Mrs. Schmoopie cruise again and how is she doing?

We're doing a Rome to Rome (actually Civitavecchia to Civitavecchia) in September.

As for Mrs.Schmoopie, thank you for asking. Her recovery has been slow but somewhat steady...even though her injury was nine months ago, and they say in the best circumstances it can be a year to recover from a tibial plateau fracture. (Best circumstances include being a young kid. which most assuredly she is not. But then again, neither am I...but so far I've been able to avoid fractures of any kind. That sound you hear is me knocking on wood). Keeping my fingers crossed that she will be able to get around better than on our cruise last month. (Which makes typing even more difficult than normal).
