Epileptic guy going on my second cruise

Recommended Posts

I gotta say, I’m super grateful I got to go on a cruise last year. This year, my wife and I are finally going to be able to go on our honeymoon after saving up for 3 years. Going on the Valor out of New Orleans. Any recommendations or thoughts about that ship from people who have sailed on it? I have some OBC that I feel like I should use in the casino if I wanna try and get a comped cruise, if nothing else for my wife, but it’s still not much OBC so I doubt they would notice me anyway. Do I talk to the host first?

When I’m there it would be pretty cool to share stories and talk with other people who have epilepsy or have loved ones and friends in their lives that struggle with it. It affects us all a little bit differently and unfortunately I have a lot of seizures. They’re almost all partial seizures where I lose the ability to use language for a few seconds. I had a couple of brain surgeries to put some cyberware into my head. The one I use is an RNS and it has helped the length of them shorten so it’s easier to communicate.

It’s been a wild ride and I’m so grateful to everyone on these ships that make it happen. I’d love to meet Micky Arison one day. I have the jersey he would like from the Miami Hurricanes basketball team and a total of 281 now.

Thankful for all the support and innovation these schools do for everyone. Even tho it took us a long time for me and my wife to save up for our own cruise, It’s gonna be such a great time and I look forward to have me and my wife meet others who have been impacted by epilepsy while we’re there.

I don’t want this to be my last cruise but if it is then I’m gonna enjoy the hell out of it. The next one I take with my wife one day will hopefully be a 14 nighter. But it’s gonna take a while for us to be able to save up enough.

If it’s not ok to post the pictures then I’m sorry. I just want to let others know that they’re never alone. Being on a cruise helps me have fewer seizures. I’d go on them all the time and review them or help Micky and co test them if I had the ability to do so. Maybe one day that dream will become a reality.

All the best everybody. Thanks for all the important advice on here. My twitter is @CBBjerseys4hope and I’ll be posting my pics from this coming cruise on there.

My wife is also an epileptic, suffer seizures regularly, along with chronic migraines, resulting from a brain tumor and brain surgery in 2012.

We live life one day at time, enjoy today and we won't and don't worry about tomorrow!

We leave Monday from New York for an 11 day!

We can relate and all the best to you !

My dd35 was diagnosed with seizures and a left temporal lobe astrocytoma at age 1.5, had a partial resection of the tumor  at 2 1/2, then again at 5 years old and has always had uncontrolled partial-complex seizures.  She has been on around 10 different meds - none work.   She is now on 3 meds, (24 pills a day) and also had 2 seizure surgeries which did not work.  8 years ago she had a VNS put in, which helps a bit.  Her seizures are unpredictable, and luckily not grand mal.  She has been on all 33 CCL cruises with us, plus another 12+ on other lines.  She still lives with us and we watch her 24/7, giving her every opportunity to enjoy life.  She bike rides, does the ropes courses on the ships, etc.  Living with seizures is tough, but Carnival is fantastic in meeting her needs -especially in the dining room, as her processing the menu is tedious at times.  I hope you enjoy every minute of your cruise!

Your story sounds similar to ours..39 year old son started having complex partial seizures when he was 11. Numerous combos of meds and also a VNS implant. He is married and living life ( with some limitations..cant drive etc) @TigerWoodsLibido Thanks for brining awareness! And have a great cruise!

Have great honeymoon cruise with your wife! The pictures look like you had a great time on the previous cruise, I hope this one surpasses it!

We did a cruise on the Valor in Nov 22. We love sailing down the Mississippi from NO to the Gulf. Our cruise was lots of fun and plenty of relaxing. We'd take that cruise again for sure. We went to Isla Pasion in Cozumel on that cruise, that was a good time too.

That’s great to hear! I’m also a fellow Duck. I’m hoping there can be many more in the future. A 14 nighter is gonna be my next mission.

Do you have a Florida State basketball jersey? If not, I might be able to make that happen for you.

I don’t have one yet. Wow thank you! Just 3 ACC teams left. FSU, North Carolina and Notre Dame. 🙏🏻🏀

I know you & your wife are going to have a great cruise - by now, you've already been down the Mississippi and seen how nice that cruise is. I'll be following along & look forward to your pictures.

🤞Hope @Noledad77 is able to get the FSU jersey to you so you'll only have 2 left.

Safe travels- enjoy your cruise!

Awesome story!  Glad you and your wife will be enjoying your honeymoon cruise!

If you want to meet up with others on board, I'd suggest joining your roll call here on cruisecritic.  You can also search social media sites where people start groups for their specific cruises.  Best of luck!

My wife has very similar episodes as you do.  She has a growth of fat cells in an unoperatable location in her brain.  It causes her to have minor seizures daily right when she falls asleep.  In no way is this stopping us from traveling and it shouldn't stop you guys either.

By the way, welcome to the BIG 10 and Go Bucks!!
