Jratlanta Posted July 15 Author #27 Share Posted July 15 We wouldn't sail any line to purchase a watch, but I will be purchasing, for my wife, a model that is difficult to get from an AD if it is available on Explora. We are glad to know there are interesting watch manufacturers represented on EJ.

Will be interesting to see what shops will be offered. Per the deck plans posted on their website, looks like the Rolex shop will be replaced with a Buccellati on the Explora II. I didn't confirm, so just FYI. Fascinating. I would have thought that the typical number of expensive watches sold per cruise would be somewhere between zero and one. On cruises I have many times walked past the shops and I have never (so far) seen anyone actually buying anything.
cruisr Posted August 8 #31 Share Posted August 8 DH and I gave up our Rolexes when we both got Apple Watches. The Rolexes are in their respective boxes in their respective drawers. When the QM2 first came out they had a Hermes shop. That lasted a year and it was replaced by something else. Not surprising there will be no Rolex shop on Explora ll. LOL, at a first quick glance I thought they were showing a PANERA next to Cartier. I would go there. I have to google Buccellati. Guess I am not as posh as the demographic Explora is after if I have to Google a shop.

How many high end jewelry stores do these ships need or will their guests frequent?

MarkWiltonM Posted August 18 #35 Share Posted August 18 We bought a Cartier watch in the onboard shop of another cruise line once and as we were disembarking we were pulled aside to wait for a junior officer who then escorted us to customs along with another couple who had also purchased a watch. Apparently, all on-board sales above a certain dollar amount are reported by the ship to U.S customs agents. In the end, we were told we could leave without paying any duty and without any explanation as to what led to us being held back and then waved through. Still a mystery. The other couple was kept at customs; maybe their watch was more valuable (?)
