Would you know if the crab shack is considered casual dining?

Thanks

No.  It costs more than $14.99.  Maybe $39.99?

Have the package and the only confusing item is this casual dining option. Wish Alfredos had more than pizza options love the eggplant and the ravioli on Regal when this venue started but then it was also free. Not sure where else to go for this, but will figure it out or not use this as well.

I know about the Crab Shack; I meant free crab, like pre-Covid.

There has never been free king or snow crab on any Princess ship. At least not in the past 15 years. What free crab are you talking about?

Grand to Hawaii.

The Casual dining venues on the Grand are Alfredo's (pizza), Vines (charcuterie) and the Salty Dog Gastropub ( it's a popup).

In 2019, crab was served on the Royal instead of lobster on the second formal night of our Alaska cruise. Prior to that, we saw it on the special insert at Crown Grill for Alaska a few times and had it in the dining room at least once.

What crab was that? King? Snow?

There's a ban on fishing king crab now since more than two years in Alaska. It's overfished. Snow crab fishery was also banned last season. And prices for those crabs are skyrocketing as you might have seen. The king crab you get in the U.S. is most likely from Norway, as russian food imports are banned since 2022.

For example, there was no way to get king crab at Icy Strait Point last year. It was no longer on the menus in the landside restaurants there.

So, you won't see any snow or king crab on Princess ships any time soon in the MDRs.

They were pushing the crab shack pop up venue at every turn but we didn't go because it was an extra $40pp fee. More shrimp with a few sad spindly crab legs. We didn't go cause it didn't look worth it.

Ok, thank you. Yeah, dungeness just isn’t the same. I think we’ll go to Tracy’s.

I was recently in Alaska and in Skagway I ate at Woadies and it was fabulous.

I think that most of the King crab has been replaced by Dungeness crab.

We love Dungeness crab. But just like Alaska, Our crab seasons have either been drastically reduced or cancelled the last few years.....California.

Then, Woadie’s sent me to Klondike Brewing- MUCH friendlier than Alaskan Brewing

This is not true. The following picture was taken in 2021 on the Majestic Princess during a round trip to Alaska from Seattle. It was one of the first few sailings after the shutdown. King crab legs were offered on the second formal night in the main dining room.

It's not at all the same. Dungees are sweeter and more flavorful, and $5.00 for a live one off the boat. In the "before times" snow and king (always frozen) was what was available in the better shoreside buffets.
